Job Description

Summary:The Top Drives Apprentice Millwright is accountable for regular maintenance of Topdrives, studying specific problems and taking corrective actions to troubleshoot, repair and maintain PD Topdrives. Responsibilities:

  • Reading diagrams and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
  • Operating rig equipment and dollies to place heavy machinery and parts.
  • Fitting bearings, aligning gears and shafts, attaching motors.
  • Aligning and testing equipment and making any necessary adjustments.
  • Performing preventive and operational maintenance and repairing or replacing defective parts when necessary.
  • Trouble-shooting hydraulic and pneumatics.
  • Capital repair, overhaul, new builds and certification of Topdrives.
  • Manage spares and inventory.
  • Test related to all styles of Top drives. Tesco HXI, NOV IDS and TDS11 more specifically.
  • Investigate equipment failures to determine if there are procedural contributions to those failures.
  • Foster solid working relationship with rig managers, superintendents, yard supervisors and vendors.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to the field personal for the inspection, troubleshooting and repair of Topdrives.
  • Maintain standard inspection and repair procedures for the Topdrives.
  • Ensure that proper fuels, lubricants, pressures, power and parts are used on the equipment.
  • Keep up to date with all Precision Drillings core values, key beliefs, and safety culture.
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned by the Drilling support Center Topdrive Manager.
  • This position is shop based but will involve regular travel to field locations.
  • Field visits and travel to remote rig-sites across North America as required;
  • Participating in on-call and overtime as required; and,
  • Various other duties as required.

  • Have a sound knowledge of mechanical/electrical systems.
  • Have the physical strength required to work with heavy equipment.
  • Exemplary safety skills both written and verbal
  • Good communication skills both written and verbal
Education:
  • High school diploma.
Experience:
  • 5-7 years’ experience working with drilling rig equipment.
  • Must have a valid vehicle operations license (abstract required);
  • Energy or oilfield services industry experience is highly desirable
