Job Description

In Canada, our communities stretch across the Greater Toronto Area, as well as in Ottawa, Calgary and Edmonton.What We OfferIn keeping with the Mattamy mission of providing The Best Homeowner Experience, the Financial Analyst will be responsible for financial modelling, analysis, consolidated budgeting and forecasting, as well as strategic planning for the division to provide valuable insights in support of operating and strategic planning initiatives.Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Manager and Vice President, Finance to prepare modelling and other analyses to drive initiatives, monitor trends, and identify exceptions and to support the budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning processes.
  • Prepare detailed budgets and forecasts with an understanding of how changes in income impact the balance sheet (financial position) and statement of cash flow
  • Analyze the profitability, projections and other financial modelling to support decision making, financial feasibility and new business initiatives.
  • Participate in sensitivity analysis to determine impact of changes to underlying assumptions on annual and strategic plan.
  • Provide timely and accurate analysis and information concerning Economic Profit and Return on Invested Capital (ROIC).
  • Analyze budgets and “Up to the Minute Forecasts” for all Division entities (including Land Development, Building and G&A Expenses) creating and providing reports on variances, trends, and control standards and practices.
  • In conjunction with Financial Reporting, complete monthly and quarterly forecasts to budget variance analysis with commentary that address key issues and drivers, to determine root causes
  • Liaise with business partners to improve forecast accuracy and add value to decision making
  • Analyze and identify trends in key performance drivers to facilitate the review of actual financial results compared to the budgets and forecasts.
  • Provide assistance with the month-end close process and the monthly financial reporting package that includes the Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow
  • Improve the quality and efficiency of financial reports and seek opportunities to streamline analysis and processes.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with internal customers in the corporate and divisional offices and work collaboratively to identify opportunities and mitigate risks.
  • Provide support pertaining to ad hoc projects as required including preparation of financial presentations and reports for senior management and executive team.
What You Bring
  • CPA designation preferred
  • 3 or more years of experience in a finance department
  • University degree in accounting or finance
  • Homebuilding and/or land development experience an asset
  • Experience with any accounting software packages and ability to quickly learn new software packages. Experience with JD Edwards, Hyperion or Essbase a definite asset
  • Intermediate to Advanced Excel skills including regular use of functions, pivot tables, etc.
  • Strong analytical, accounting and organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Results oriented with ability to set realistic and attainable goals and meet those on time
  • Demonstrates the highest level of ethics and personal integrity
