With offices in Ottawa and Calgary, and team members located throughout the country, we have had the privilege of working alongside Indigenous Nations, all levels of government, communities, museums, filmmakers, policymakers, and individuals.About the PositionKnow History is looking for a highly motivated, team-oriented Historical Researcher with Interpretive Planning experience to lead projects with an emphasis on interpretive products, from digital experiences to documentaries and exhibits. Working closely with our team of Historical Researchers you will create interpretive plans, write and edit interpretive text, and engage with client and community stakeholders to gain diverse perspectives.The successful candidate is able to interpret and present research, understands the power of story, and how to use archival research, oral history, images and other graphics, and artefacts to add colour and depth to interpretive products and digital experiences. You are a meticulous researcher who is dead-line driven, able to manage competing priorities, can work independently and on a team, and is passionate about Indigenous history and issues.This is a full-time position with options for flexible hours and the option to work in either our Calgary or Ottawa office or remotely within Canada.   • Designing and implementing Interpretive Plans that encourage story-telling and dialogue.
  • Developing interpretive content to create engaging narratives with diverse perspectives based on engagement with clients and community stakeholders.
  • Structuring, writing and reviewing interpretive text, storyboards, and scripts with an eye for readability, audience, cultural sensitivity, and accessibility.
  • Coordinating with graphic, exhibition, and multimedia designers, and digital and audiovisual producers.
  • Assigning tasks to team members and setting expectations for their performance and project outcomes.
  • Monitoring timelines of research projects and implementing timely reviews to ensure projects are on track to meet milestones and deliverables.
  • Engaging and liaising with clients on project progress throughout project lifecycle.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
  • A Masters’ Degree in History or Museum Studies or equivalent work experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years experience with Interpretive Planning and interpretive text writing for a general audience.
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate and problem solve.
  • Knowledge of Canadian, First Nation, Inuit, and Métis History.
  • Ability to design and follow workflows.
  • A meticulous and passionate researcher.
  • Strong team player.
Position Details:
  • Hours: Full-time
  • Compensation: Salary dependent on experience, with paid vacation, paid sick leave, and health and dental benefits.
  • Travel required: Occasionally
  • Location: Calgary or Ottawa or remotely within Canada
