Job Description

Louis W Bray Construction is seeking a full-time Surveyor to join our winning team and support the completion of Heavy Civil Construction projects throughout the Ottawa area.Louis W Bray Construction is a family-owned and operated Heavy Civil General Contractor, but we are more than just your regular heavy civil construction company.   • Utilize specialized GPS and total station equipment to determine precise measures of grades and positions on a job site, including the set-up of laser levels and slope lasers and as-built capture of roads, bridges, utilities, etc.
  • Set up machine-controlled equipment as needed.
  • report to Project Managers and Superintendents to coordinate survey work with the construction plan.
  • Accurately record measurements, deviations and other information obtained through survey activities, and organize and store the information for later retrieval.
  • Read and interpret construction plans and provide information on the worksite
  • Provide on-site troubleshooting of survey layout and machine control data to ensure all data and work performed is accurate and up to date.
  • Assess construction work and materials’ physical placement, ensuring adherence to designated lines and grades.
  • Assist project superintendent, foreman and heavy equipment operators with interpreting design drawings and specifications.
  • Ensure all survey data is obtained, correct, downloaded and transferred as required.
  • Perform topographic survey and volume analysis at various stages of the project.
  • Responsible for ongoing care and maintenance of all survey equipment.
  • Interpret and extrapolate surveying data from construction and design drawings.
  • Help prepare surveying notes, grade sheets and calculate coordinates.
  • Promote, execute and adhere to the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees, sub-contractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
  • Other duties may be assigned within the reasonable scope of work of the position
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of construction surveying experience in civil/infrastructure construction projects.
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in construction engineering or related discipline.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • The ability to interpret and use information from maps, drawings and measurements taken in the field.
  • High attention to detail and ability to work independently on multiple projects.
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in AutoCAD, are required to be successful in this role.
  • Excellent scheduling and prioritization skills.
  • Able to work at heights and balance on platforms, scaffolds and decks
  • Able to work alone or as part of a team
  • Adaptable and willing to work varying hours as the job demands.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license
