Job Description

Based in the Pictou Library and under the supervision of the Pictou Branch Manager, the Emerging Technology Assistant is responsible for providing assistance to library users in accessing all library materials, services, and programs. This position works in collaboration with the Regional Community Technology Manager to develop and deliver technology related services and programs and to assist staff with technology related questions and needs.Outline of Typical Responsibilities:

  • Provides instruction for the public and library staff on emerging technologies.
  • Provides instruction and support with the regional library’s virtual programming platform.
  • Assists patrons with accessing the library’s digital content.
  • Assists with the development and arrangements for special and regular library programs, in particular, technology-related programming in Pictou.
  • Supports the development of a Pictou Maker Space.
  • As a first point of contact, provides welcoming orientation and guidance to all those wishing to access regional library materials, services, and programs.
  • Promotes library materials, services, and programs to all citizens.
  • Provides efficient library service, including reader advisory, reference, referral, circulation, assistance in using library databases, and general public assistance.
  • Assists with clerical procedures such as shelving, shelf reading, and ensuring the efficient operation of library routines.
  • May be asked to assist with programs including introducing and thanking guest speakers.
  • Provides suggestions for materials, service improvements, and programming opportunities, as well as communicates any public feedback.
  • Works with library partners as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
EducationMinimum Grade 12, but coursework in the area of instruction and technology is an asset.Good technology and communication skills, willingness to keep up with emerging technologies, and a proven aptitude working with the public are essential.ExperienceMinimum one-year satisfactory employment, preferably in a library or other customer service-related role.Hours: Full time, permanent, 35hrs/weekSalary: $29,229.00 annuallyApplication Deadline: November 8, 2022Job Type: Full-timeSalary: $29,229.00 per yearBenefits:
