This is a Full time Regional position based in Celtic Family Trenton office.Minimum Requirements o Licensed HVAC Technician or Journeyman/Red Seal in a related trade (i.e Electrician) with HVAC experience.o Minimum of Grade 12 High School Diploma or academic equivalent through educational programs such as a Graduated Equivalent Diploma.o Minimum of three (3) years´ work experience in the trade (preference for commercial/industrial/ institutional settings).o Valid Nova Scotia driver´s license and be willing to drive extensively throughout the identified Family of Schools.o Ability to read and understand construction diagrams.o Ability to analyze and solve through troubleshooting, a wide variety of problems related to facility maintenance.o Ability to operate a personal computer (with experience in PC application of word processing, spreadsheets) an asset.o Ability to physically perform the duties required including significant periods of walking, extended periods of standing, sitting, involves heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs.), and repetitive push/pull motion.o Experience working in an educational setting.o Exposure to computer maintenance systems such as SAP is an asset.Additional Assets Position SummaryThe HVAC Technician position shall provide support to the CCRCE Property Services Division. The incumbent shall work in partnership with other staff and supervisors in a collaborative environment.Competencies RequiredThe HVAC position in the Property Services Division of the Operational Services Department of the Chignecto Central Regional Centre for Education shall have the following competencies:(a) A general knowledge of numerous trades and how they may be inter-related, i.e. carpentry, plumbing, ventilation, sheet metal, and masonry etc. as well as building construction including the building envelope, structure, mechanical, electrical, heating, safety and utility systems.(b) Ability to work and adapt to frequently changing priorities.(c) Ability to maintain a professional standard and commitment when meeting operational requirements that can have tight timeframes.(d) Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal).(e) Excellent problem solving and trouble shooting skills.(f) A working knowledge of applicable building and fire codes, other regulatory requirements including the Nova Scotia Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations.(g) The knowledge and ability to engage in continuing education and skills upgrading, as necessary.(h) A demonstrated competency in administrative and organizational tasks including competency in the operation of a personal computer.(i) Ability to take initiative in recognizing, prioritizing, and scheduling of work.(j) The ability to work collaboratively with staff members in all departments and functions.(k) Ability and willingness to perform skilled and semi-skilled tasks and labour in various trades.(l) Willingness to complete courses in WHMIS, First Aid, Fall Protection, Confined Space or other training and information sessions, as determined by CCRCE.(m) Capable of working as a member of a team or individually working efficiently with minimal supervision.(n) Knowledge of monitoring and maintaining HVAC systems in schools or similar environment.(o) Knowledge of energy management controls.Specific Job ComponentsThe HVAC position shall support the Property Services initiatives in the Chignecto Central Regional Centre for Education´s facilities and activities. Those tasks may vary from time to time and may include the following:(a) Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, tests and repairs all HVAC systems within the CCRCE as directed and assigned.(b) Diagnose problems and effect repairs in a safe, efficient and timely manner. Report issues requiring additional support to Manager as soon as reasonably possible.(c) Evaluate necessary repairs and identify any required materials and parts to complete maintenance assignments. Maintain appropriate, accurate records and documentation of work performed through the work order system.(d) Follow all purchasing and finance guidelines during all job functions.(e) Prepare all required reports and maintain necessary records.(f) Maintain knowledge of and implement CCRCE and department specific policies and procedures and follow same.(g) Occasionally assist or perform semi-skilled to skilled maintenance, repair and construction work in the basic trades such as carpentry, plumbing, mechanical systems, etc. as required.(h) Perform preventative maintenance tasks on installed equipment and mechanical systems.(i) Work with outside agencies as required.(j) Ensure that appropriate requirements are followed within the Electrical Code, and National Building and Fire Codes and applicable Health & Safety legislation.(k) Maintain required inventory needs as required.(l) Instruct users in the proper application and care of any installed components.(m) Demonstrate initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities.(n) Observe and implement proper safety practices for a safe and secure workplace, including reporting any unsafe situations or workplace incidents.(o) Perform general clean-up of job site.(p) Maintain assigned vehicle in an orderly fashion.
