Job Description

Are you looking for a role that will challenge youWould you like to make a difference in the EnvironmentIf you answered yes, our Whiteshell Laboratories (WL) site located near Pinawa, Manitoba is looking for a Project Supervisor. The Project Supervisor is the lead for field execution of projects, responsible for safe leadership, efficient utilization of resources, schedule adherence while meeting production goals. Does this peek your interest If you answered yes, then this may be the job for you!Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) employees perform all duties in accordance with established health and safety and regulations/guidelines, policies and procedures (i.e. utilizing personal protective equipment as per safe work procedures). Notifying management or supervisor of all occurrences, injuries, illnesses or safety and health concerns which are likely to harm themselves, their co-workers or any other on the premises in a timely manner and in accordance with established reporting requirements.What will you be doing

  • Effectively communicating to help identify and resolve issues, identifying solutions and coordinating resources.
  • Appling critical thinking to make recommendations that pursue sustainable performance.
  • Participating in daily/weekly meetings with Project Team/Managers/Planners and support services regarding planning and progress reporting when the field work will allow.
  • Communicating to the Planner the Working Schedule scope, forecasting activities that supports the advancement of the Baseline and management of site wide resources to achieve pre-determined goals.
  • Ensuring trained and qualified resources are effectively deployed, aligning and utilizing resources ultimately increasing overall productivity.
  • Single-point-of-contact (SPOC) for work site related activities, including facilitating walk down activities, ensuring all walk down participants understand the scope of work.
  • Working closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) on the technical execution of work.
  • Ensuring Walk Down, Field Verification Checklist (FVC), Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Work Instruction Package (WIP), Work Permit (WP), Order to Operate (OTO) and Clearance documentation that identify the hazards and mitigation techniques have been completed prior to the execution of field work activities.
  • Maintaining log/reports including, site, production, time keeping, Daily Field Work report, WIP sign offs/status, and associated drawing sign-offs.
  • Preparing work permits, leading Pre-Job Briefings and Post Job Reviews, or delegating this responsibility as needed.
  • Ensuring workers participate in appropriate pre-job brief meetings to ensure workers are fully engaged, and aware of all hazards associated with the planning and execution of work activities and all mitigating techniques have been deployed to maintain workplace safety.
  • Rotating through an on-call schedule; acting as a Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for trades resources to respond to emergent issues after hours.
  • Supervising a team comprised of skilled trades, decontamination workers, radiation surveyors, heavy equipment operators, utility works and other support groups.
  • Promoting supporting and facilitating teamwork and harmony between all team members by fostering a positive, visible teamwork attitude.
  • Coaching, and providing verbal encouragement and recognition to staff.
  • Maintaining confidentiality in all matters.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.
What we are looking for:
  • Security clearance eligibility required: Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of three (3) years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariatquot;Standard on Security Screening quot; and thequot;Policy on Government Security quot;.
  • A two (2) year Technical or University diploma/degree, or a Journeyperson trades certification with seven years or more of relevant experience.
  • Diploma in Healthamp; Safety an asset.
  • At least seven (7) years of relevant experience, with at least five years of leading and executing field work.
  • Strong project supervisor track record.
  • Familiarity with construction, remediation, demolition and building maintenance.
  • Familiarity with radiological work an asset.
  • Proven ability to lead large crews in various disciplines.
  • Effective team building and leadership skills to develop collaborative relationships with colleagues and subordinates.
  • Self-motivating, disciplined and able to work independently, collaboratively and in difficult/high pressure situations.
  • Ability to effectively manage change responding to needs as they evolve while maintaining budget and timeline.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing requirements, and to work under pressure.
  • Able to prepare accurate resource and cost estimates and schedule, run and report progress on multiple concurrent jobs.
  • Familiar with the Microsoft Office suite of software programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, unusual or hazardous conditions and to lead others in such conditions.
  • Good writing skills for report development, daily logs, Order to Operate (OTOs), Radiological Work Plan (RWP) and work plans.
  • Good overall knowledge of the Whiteshell Laboratories site and site operations.
  • Good overall knowledge of work place safety issues, work permit system, site rules, union agreements, company policies, procedures and programs.
Working Conditions:
  • The Project Supervisor is required to be a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW) and obtain Group 3 qualification.
  • Work in environments that require personal protective equipment and clothing including construction/decommissioning sites, contamination zones and potentially confined spaces.
  • May involve working outdoors in all seasons.
  • Some exposure to nuclear radiation and industrial hazards during construction/demolition activities.
