Job Description

Are you looking for a role that will challenge you If you answered yes, then this may be the job for you!Our Whiteshell Laboratories (WL) site, located near Pinawa, Manitoba, is looking to hire 15 Security-Tiered Response Force (TRF) Officers. This role is primarily responsible for providing rapid, efficient and safe responses to security events by carrying out access control, intervention and investigation duties under routine and emergency conditions at the Whiteshell Laboratories (WL) site. The TRF ensures the safety and security of employees, visitors and contractors by monitoring the site and proactively preventing or reacting to hazards, emergencies and threats using appropriate methods, tools (including Use of Force), techniques, skills and training within both regulatory and business frameworks.What will you be doing

  • Providing Access Control and Armed Response.
  • Providing conventional security and/or armed security patrols and tactical responses to breaches of security, emergencies and/or contingency operations on or in relation to the protected area(s) at the WL site. Contain, apprehend, arrest, search and/or neutralize armed or unarmed intruders pending the arrival of the local/Provincial Police force, utilizing the correct application of thequot;Use of Force Continuum in accordance with approved rules of engagement.
  • Preparing and maintaining records of security activities performed as per procedures.
  • Carry (on person), maintain and effectively employ various non-lethal and lethal weapon systems, day and night surveillance systems, and standard and tactical communications systems. This may involve the wearing of personal protective equipment of moderate weight for varying periods of time.
  • Conducting vehicle and pedestrian access control for the protected and controlled areas of the facility in accordance with approved procedures and operating policies.
  • Calling or confirming sponsors for visitors entering the site or restricted areas.
  • Controlling and regulating on-site traffic and parking facilities and maintaining employee and traffic flow.
  • Operating and monitoring closed circuit video and intrusion detection equipment within the Central Alarm Station (CAS).
  • Providing dispatch of emergency services (Security/Fire/Medical) and identifying and/or recording any abnormal situations or events to the supervisor for direction.
  • Maintaining a log of all CAS operations and activities.
  • Initiating reports to affect the repair of defective weapons, security surveillance or communication systems, gates, fences and vehicles in accordance with established procedures.
  • Recording all irregularities and advise supervision of the situation(s).
  • Reporting to work alert andquot;fit for duty quot; and remain attentive at all times while on duty.
Maintenance of Qualifications and Certifications
  • Completing and maintaining regulatory qualifications in fitness, firearms, use of force and first aid, and submission of medical assessments by established due dates to maintain a CNSC Public Agent status. Successfully completed annual refresher training in accordance with the established training plan.
  • Assumeing personal responsibility and accountability for maintaining current skills by attending all required site training, viewing assigned videos, reading articles and participating in seminars as required.
  • Ensuring all provincial and federal licenses are maintained and valid, including a PAL and driver #39;s license.

  • Ability to operate with minimum supervision and be able to make rapid and effective decisions.
  • Must have basic knowledge of computer fundamentals and principles of data processing in order to maintain ID programs, computerized lists, registration programs and security reports.
  • Posses and maintain a restricted/unrestricted firearms Possession and Acquisitions License.
  • Pass a medical examination pursuant to Section 18.2 (b) of the Nuclear Security Regulations.
  • Pass a psychological examination pursuant to Section 18.2 (d) of the Nuclear Security Regulations.
  • Be physically fit pursuant to Section 18.2 (c) of the Nuclear Security Regulations.
  • Possess/retain a validquot;Class 4 quot; Province of Manitoba Driver #39;s License.
  • Ability to obtain CNL Respirator Fit Test Certification.
Experience
  • Practical experience as may be gained in a law enforcement, military, or security environment in the safe handling and tactical deployment of various types of lethal and non-lethal weapons, day and night surveillance systems, restraint systems and communication devices.
  • Practical experience in generating incident reports and using electronic systems to log report information.
  • Security clearance eligibility required: Level 2 Secret which has a minimum requirement of 7 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariatquot;Standard on Security Screening quot; and thequot;Policy on Government Security.quot;
Education
  • Secondary School diploma or equivalency.
  • Post-secondary diploma with concentrated studies in a security/police-related discipline or equivalent in knowledge and related experience is considered an asset.
