The Family Resource Specialist (FRS) is responsible for completing the Parent Survey (PS) with parents (prenatally and/or immediately after the birth of their child) to determine eligibility for home visitation services and to connect the family with needed resources and referrals. The FRS will use reflective practice techniques to engage parents and explain the home visiting services to interested parents. The FRS must have good writing skills to complete the PS. If the family does not enter the program, the FRS will make referrals to the appropriate community-based agencies, depending on the family’s needs. The FRS is also responsible for conducting community outreach and maintaining referral relationships with referral sources in the community. The FRS will provide ongoing community outreach to promote the program daily.Essential Duties
  • Understanding and supporting the agency’s mission & treatment philosophy:
    • Treats all children, families and co-workers with respect & courtesy
    • Demonstrates & models sensitivity to cultural background of children, families and co-workers
    • Honors Sanctuary Commitments in all day to day activities
  • Participates in training and meetings to obtain and discuss information related to
program/agency and for overall professional development:
  • Attends orientations led by the program and the agency
  • Participates in core and wraparound training as identified by agency, program and NYS OCFS
  • Participates in staff meetings
  • Works effectively to provide family support and to ensure healthy growth and development of children:
    • Supports and reinforces the importance of parents as the first and most important teachers of their children
    • Empowers families with skills to advocate for themselves
    • Offers referrals and information according to the needs of families
    • Effectively manages a caseload of up to a case weight of 30 or no more than 25 families
    • Conducts home visits according to the frequency of contact for families
    • Supports families on goal planning and monitors progress
    • Ensures activities are family appropriate and reflective of the developmental level of the child
    • Incorporates curriculum when working with families
  • Utilizes Supervision effectively to address concerns and explore ways to best support families:
  • Meets weekly for supervision and consistently shares information related to families, parent-child interaction, goal plan and curriculum or activities used
  • Strategizes on ways to engage hard to reach families
  • Follows through on tasks assigned
  • Seeks and accepts help and direction when necessary
  • Models appropriate work place behavior
  • Notifies supervisor of schedule changes with families and when unable to report to work
  • Safely manages all aspects of job responsibilities:
  • Consistently practices universal precautions
  • Maintains a safe & hazard–free work area. Effectively monitors facilities & equipment for cleanliness and hazards. Raises concerns when appropriate
  • Identifies potential program risks and brings these issues to the attention of the appropriate people immediately
  • Performs duties of a mandated reporter by reporting any suspicion of child abuse or neglect to Supervisor and SCR
  • Provides schedule of home visits
  • Models professional behavior when visiting families and working in the field
  • Informs Supervisor of potentially unsafe home environments when visiting families
  • Utilizes culture informed interventions when working with families
  • Completes all paperwork and case record forms in a clear, accurate and timely fashion:
  • Consistently documents all contacts and family information according to program and HFNY standards
  • Submits paperwork and assignments for review as scheduled
  • Ensures case records are current and complete with proper forms
  • Works effectively with other staff and community partners:
– Is flexible and accommodating in unplanned or crisis situations– Actively participates in team discussions and cooperates by following through on plans– Works collaboratively with others on special projects assignedEssential Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2 years direct work experience with children and families in a community setting
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and knowledge of basic computer systems
  • Knowledge of Yonkers and county resources valued
  • Facility in written and spoken English and Spanish preferred
  • Ability to adhere to our organization’s core values

  • Must possess ability to sit, stand, walk, run, climb stairs, lift weights of up to 30lbs
