Hours will be worked as required to cover staff leave and absence.Your New RoleYour duties will include:

  • Following a menu plan producing nutritionally based meals, including special dietary requirements.
  • Planning and producing a varied and exciting menu to meet the requirements of residents. This would only be required if you cover a long term absence.
  • Ordering stock for the kitchen and dealing with various suppliers.
  • Checking the delivery of supplies and arranging appropriate storage.
  • Preparing food on a daily business with the help of a kitchen assistant.
  • Being responsible for the overall health and safety practices in the kitchen during your shift.
  • Ensuring that all kitchens records are kept up to date, including details of menus, allergies of any new residents admitted while you are on shift and health and safety checks.
  • Producing dishes when catering for special events.
What you’ll need to succeed
  • An advanced qualification in catering, for example, City and Guilds 701/702 and a basic food hygiene certificate (or working towards a suitable qualification)
  • Experience of ordering stock.
  • The ability to cook correct portions to avoid wastage or under portioning.
  • The ability to manage a delivery of stock and stock rotation.
  • A good knowledge of food and nutrition, including a good range of special dietary requirements and be able to plan menus to reflect this.
  • Proven cookery skills, with a good knowledge of planning nutritionally well-balanced meals.
  • Flexibility in being able to adapt to changing workloads of the team and the requirements of the unit.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • The ability and to organise and lead kitchen staff.
  • An understanding of the policy regarding safeguarding vulnerable people.
