It is a future where cutting-edge science and proven farmpractices meet, ensuring the health of pigs, producers, and consumers for generations to come.OpportunityFast Genetics is currently seeking a highly motivated person to fill a permanent full-time position as a Swine DataSpecialist. The successful candidate is ideally based in Spiritwood, Saskatchewan, and will report to our Managerof Genetics & Genetic Research.This position will include the following responsibilities and day-to-day functions, but is not limited to:

  • Collecting ultrasound measurements and weights on live animals at nucleus barns.
  • Monitoring the performance of animals during the performance testing period in the nucleus barn.
  • Analyzing, interpreting, and exploring the data collected at the nucleus level and presenting the
findings to the R&D team.
  • Developing reports to ensure phenotypic data collection is accurate.
  • Identifying challenges and opportunities with data collection.
  • Developing, executing, and following up with data collection audits.
  • Ensuring equipment used by the barns is in good working condition and measuring accurately.
  • Facilitating communication between farm, genetic team, and technical support.
  • Keeping knowledge up to date on technology and equipment to accurately measure phenotypes such
as weights, backfat, and/or individual feed conversion rate.The successful candidate would ideally possess the following experience and qualifications:
  • Diploma or B.Sc. in Animal Science or equivalent skills
  • M.Sc. in Genetics or a related field is considered an asset.
  • Scientific background and experience in data analysis is an asset
  • Experience handling animals and knowledge of good animal welfare.
  • Has experience in or willing to learn genetics, animal breeding and animal anatomy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Applications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented, independent, innovative, and result-driven.
  • Excellent problem-solving ability.
  • Shares in Fast Genetics core values.
