LabApplication Deadline: 2023-10-15Swine Production Technician – Spiritwood, SKOpportunityFast Genetics is looking for keen individuals who are thrilled to join us in our goal of building the future of pork production. We are currently looking for highly motivated people to fill several full-time Swine Production Technician positions in our production facilities in Spiritwood, Saskatchewan.* The successful candidate would ideally live in the surrounding communities, but foreign recruits are also welcome to apply as we hire through the Saskatchewan Immigration Nomination Program (SINP). *These positions are responsible for assisting other Production Technicians in routine animal care and general farm tasks to ensure the welfare and well-being of the animals.This position will include the following responsibilities and day-to-day functions but is not limited to:

  • Work as a team player by accomplishing specific department duties and farm goals,
  • Ensuring proper health, handling, and comfort of sows, gilts, and piglets, i.e.: daily health checks and monitoring/maintaining proper ventilation and temperature,
  • Weigh, sort, handle and/or move pigs,
  • Feed, water, vaccinate, and perform general animal husbandry tasks including basic minor maintenance tasks to ensure feed and water systems are working properly,
  • Power washing empty pens and prepping rooms for animal entry,
  • Keeping accurate records on all animals as requested, i.e.: pig identification,
  • Working safely and wearing appropriate PPE while performing all job duties,
  • Ensure the barns biosecurity protocol is followed by all staff and visitors,
  • Assist with maintaining barn, office cleanliness, and laundry duties.
  • Performing other general farm duties as required.
The successful candidate would ideally possess the following qualifications and experiences:
  • Self-motivated and reliable,
  • Team player,
  • Outstanding organization and communication skills and demonstrates attention to detail,
  • Able to manage priorities and solve problems in a fast-paced environment,
  • Driver’s license,
  • A college certificate or other specialized training in agriculture or livestock husbandry with 1-2 years of experience would be an asset,
  • Foreign recruits are required to have an IELTS score of at least 4 in all sections of the General Module Test,
  • Shares in Fast Genetics’ core values.
