Job Description

Summer Student - By-Law Enforcement OfficerEnhance your post-secondary studies in Law Enforcement with practical experience as a Seasonal By-Law Enforcement Officer for the Town of Tillsonburg.Reporting to the By-Law Enforcement Supervisor, you will be responsible for providing administrative support to By-Law, conducting parking enforcement and gaining compliance with the Town By-Laws through education and enforcement action when required.The Seasonal By-Law Enforcement Officer will be a temporary full-time position between the months of May and September.This is a seasonal student position with an option to enroll in OMERS defined benefit pension plan. Department: Development and OperationsDivision: Buildingamp; By-LawReports To: By-Law Enforcement SupervisorContract: May 5, 2025 to August 29, 2025Hourly Rate: $18.55/hourWeekly Hours: 40Criminal Record Check required for this position.Interested candidates please apply prior to the end of day on Sunday, March 9, 2025.Responsibilities

  • Responding in a timely fashion to residents’ concerns and inquiries.
  • Investigating and documenting all concerns.
  • Regular enforcement of the Town Parking By-Laws.
  • Park enforcement and bike patrols.
  • Attended court when necessary to provide evidence relating to charges laid including parking infractions.
  • By-law administrative tasks and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Successfully completed or currently enrolled in Lawamp; Security, Police Foundations or another related training course.
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills with the ability to de-escalate conflict situations.
  • The ability to exercise discretion and to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Candidates with training from the Municipal Law Enforcement Officers Association (MLEOA) or the Ontario Association of Property Standards Officer’s would be an asset.
