Do you have the drive, the skills, and the passion to join usLafarge Canada is looking for a 3rd Class Power Engineer to join our Winnipeg team.As a Power Engineer - 3rd Class, you will:

  • Actively participate in Safety Program with positive attitude and behavior.
  • Perform FLRA #39;s without prompting from supervisors.
  • Perform assigned PM checks without prompting from supervisors.
  • Keep workplace safe and tidy without prompting from supervisors.
  • Adhere to established procedures in order to ensure safety and quality.
  • Clean up plant, yard, and equipment.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Operate and maintain low and high pressure steam systems;
  • Operate and maintain environmental control equipment;
  • Operate equipment to support various production units including turbines, pumps, compressors, turbo alternators, cooling towers, water treatment systems, gas systems, and HVAC equipment;
  • Perform chemical analysis on process water and adjust systems to maintain operations, including the handling of reagents, chemicals, and chemical injection equipment;
  • Operate and maintain gas testing equipment and participate in the issuance of Confined Space Entry Permits;
  • Provide isolation, lockouts, clearances and safe work permits on Utility systems and process equipment;
  • Assist in the development of energy control procedures and safe work practices;
  • Assist with maintenance planning and repair of equipment
  • Operate in accordance with all applicable procedures, policies, and regulation
  • Class 3 power engineer must have mechanical and analytical skills, as well as the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues as they arise.
  • 3rd Class Power Engineer Certificate (required).
  • Must have or must develop a mindset that Safety is always the first priority.
  • Must be able and willing to do shiftwork.
  • Must be able and willing to work overtime and weekends.
  • Must meet minimum standards of quality and productivity.
  • Must be in good physical condition for labour intensive work.
  • Must endeavor to minimize costs by producing a quality product properly the first time and by taking proper care of plant, equipment, and tools.
  • Must be consistently and reliably capable.
  • Must be results oriented.
  • Must accept accountability for performance.
  • Be able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong management and leadership ability an asset.
  • Increased automation of mechanical systems makes computer skills essential for this position, and stationary engineer must continually learn new skills to keep up with technical advances.
  • Must be able to work in noisy environments, stand for long periods of time, crawl, climb, and work with hazardous equipment.
  • Work under minimal supervision and/or direction
