The Agriculture department is looking for experienced seasonal full-time Agricultural Assistants for the 2023 summer season which will run approximately May 2nd to October 27th. We are seeking applicants who enjoy the public, possess excellent computer skills, and have exceptional communication and record-keeping skills.Responsibilities include:Pick weeds in inaccessible areas and transport them to the incinerator at the landfill siteAssist with placing and monitoring 1) Bertha Army Worm; 2) Diamondback moth and 3) Wheat Midge trapsAssist in Data reportingAssist in planting and maintaining of Invasive Species Demo Site and other similar projectsOrganize and participate in the Weed Warrior programAssist with plant and soil sample collectionsAssist with Clubroot monitoring and samplingAssist with crop inspections for Pest and Disease issuesAssist in organizing and participating in various County functionsCarry out the crop inventory survey for the seasonQUALIFICATIONS:A valid Class 5 drivers license and acceptable drivers abstractAn interest in agriculture, particularly insects and diseases found in agricultureA strong work ethicAbility to work outdoors in varying conditionsEnjoy working in collaborative teamsWillingness to find and catch different insectsThe successful applicants must have reliable transportation to and from work.This position is 40 hours a week Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm with some weekends and evenings as required.The County of Grande Prairie recognizes and values the principles of fair hiring practices.
