Weed Inspectors are responsible for inspecting properties in the County of Grande Prairie for noxious and prohibited noxious weeds, as regulated under the Weed Control Act of Alberta.Responsibilities include:Making contact with landowners, occupants, industry, and towns regarding presence of noxious or prohibited-noxious weeds on the propertyIdentifying weedsSeeking agreements on timelines for completion of an action plan to address the problem, and conducting follow upConducting spot spraying as required (either by hand or using an ATV)Conducting investigations received as a result of public complaints, and conducting follow up as requiredMapping areas to be sprayed and/or follow up as requiredAdvising the Pest and Disease Inspector of insect concernsPicking weedsMonitoring control method effectiveness on properties with noxious or prohibited noxious weeds.QUALIFICATIONS:A valid Class 5 drivers license and acceptable drivers abstractAbility to communicate with ease in difficult situationsStrong organizational skills, ability to effectively manage time, ability to effectively prioritize requiredExperience in MS Office required, experience in mapping software an assetExperience with weed, crop and basic insect identification an assetKnowledge of the Provincial Weed Control Act an assetExperience in the agricultural industry an assetComfortable driving on gravel roads.The successful applicants must have reliable transportation to and from work.This job is 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm with some weekends and evenings as required.The County of Grande Prairie recognizes and values the principles of fair hiring practices.
