Vegetation Control is responsible for spraying weeds and brush on County-owned property including on roadsides and in gravel pits. This position typically works Monday through Friday with a 5:00 a.m. start time.Responsibilities include:Carry out the crop inventory survey for the seasonAssessing and documenting areas to be sprayed and determining priorities and water locationLocating spray areas on mapSafely loading and filling water and chemical, and transporting to spray siteDetermining and then double checking whether the area is a no-spray zoneIdentifying target species and crops while on the moveMonitoring water/chemical use and distance covered, weatherOperating and maintaining equipment such as: spray truck, UTV, ATV, handsprayers, and trimmersMaintaining spraying recordsDaily and monthly reportingChemical spill containment and clean-upTake training required for the position (i.e. TDG, H2S, ATV/UTV, Defensive Driving)QUALIFICATIONS:A valid Class 5 drivers license and acceptable drivers abstractExperience with weed and crop identification an assetPesticide Applicators License (Industrial and Agricultural) or Authorized Assistant Certificate an assetAbility to maintain the equipment used (i.e. change oil,)Spray truck/UTV/ATV/trailer hauling/hand spraying/trimming experience an assetAbility to manage time and priorities, and ability to multi-taskComfortable using computers, including MS Office softwareComfortable reading maps and accurately determining land locationsPhysically fitComfortable dealing with the public and working alone for extended periodsPesticide Authorized Assistant certificateThe successful applicants must have reliable transportation to and from work.We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.The County of Grande Prairie recognizes and values the principles of fair hiring practices.
