Position: Student Support SpecialistLocation: Frontier Collegiate CampusStart Date: As soon as possibleHours/Days/Months: 7.25 Hours/Day, 5 Days/Week, 10 Months/YearTerm of Employment: PermanentSalary: $34.05/hourUnionized/Non-Unionized: UnionizedApplication Deadline: Thursday, November 18, 2021Reporting to the Frontier Collegiate Administration, the Student Support Specialist provides life skillscounselling and crisis intervention to students and families. The Student Support Specialist works closelywith local, school and area personnel to provide supports and resources.QUALIFICATIONS Post-secondary education in social services or counselling or combination of acceptable training andrelevant experience. Three years’ experience with individual and group counselling and crisis intervention includingcounselling suicidal individuals; working with adolescents and young adults; experience in northernand remote communities. Experience in an educational environment. Extensive knowledge of community and Area supports and resources. Knowledge of post-traumatic stress theories. Understanding of Indigenous Way of Life Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills. Fluency in an Indigenous language would be an asset. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. Ability to maintain confidentiality within and outside the organization.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides intervention and counselling to individuals in crisis. Meets regularly with student support team to provide a multi-disciplinary approach to treatment whereappropriate. Develops treatment goals and plans in conjunction with the student and/or family. Ensures compliance to treatment plan whenever possible. Facilitates group counselling sessions for students and families. Develops and delivers workshops on relevant crisis intervention, coping strategies, and life skills tostudents and families. Refers individuals to local groups and agencies for support. Follows-up with agencies regarding external referrals. Maintains accurate and confidential records. Prepares statistical reports. Works closely with staff and community personnel to provide counselling and support services aimedat improving students’ and families’ quality of life.Applications should include a cover letter, current resume and a list of three professional referencesincluding contact numbers.
