Job Description

Term of Appt: Immediately - June 2026Start date: ImmediatelyReporting to: Associate Dean of Health Sciencesamp; Human ServicesSalary:$45.60 - $56.75/hr, depending on experience and qualifications as per the BCGEU Faculty Collective Agreement. Temporary employees receive an additional 2% in lieu of benefits, 6% vacation pay and 4.2% statutory holiday pay included with each pay. The period of campus closure that occurs between Christmas and New Year #39;s Day is unpaid time. Employees in this group have the opportunity to contribute to the College Pension Plan, that are matched by the employer.Description:NLC #39;s Health Sciences Department requires a temporary, full-time instructor. An in-depth knowledge of the scope of practice for LPNs and HCAs is required. This position may require some travel between Dawson Creek and Fort St John campus, but effort will be made to minimize travel required.The HCA, APN, and PN curriculum provides a learning experience that is integrated, professional, collaborative, and culturally sensitive, with an aim to prepare graduates to care for individuals (and families of individuals) at multiple life stages and in a variety of practice settings.As a member of the Health Sciences Department team, you will be expected to seek excellence in instruction by applying various teaching strategies and working with colleagues to promote an environment of inquiry and evidence-informed practice.The term of this position is to backfill a current vacancy until return of incumbent (expected to be June 2026), with a possibility of an extension.Qualifications: Required:

  • Completion of an accredited Diploma in Practical Nursing, or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
  • Current unrestricted full registration as a licensed practical nurse, registered nurse or registered psychiatric nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives.
  • Minimum of two or more years of full-time Canadian Nursing experience with relevant knowledge of the Canadian healthcare system and of the roles and responsibilities of healthcare team members and current policies and procedures within residential and community care settings. Nursing experience should include experience in working with older adults with complex health needs; and experience or orientation (e.g., shadow shifts) in home support and multi-level/complex care.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach adult learners: e.g., completion of (or satisfactory progress in) the Provincial Instructor Diploma Program; or previous teaching experience with satisfactory evaluations; or, where PIDP or teaching evaluations are absent, teaching ability must be demonstrated during the interview process.
  • Evidence of completion of course work in Indigenous cultural safety and humility (e.g., San #39;yas Anti-Racism Indigenous Cultural Safety Training or an alternative training program).
  • Evidence of completion of the Health Care Assistant Practice in BC.
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and oral.
  • Committed to student motivation and achievement; and
  • Ability to contribute as a team member.
Preferred:
  • Teaching experience as a nurse or health care professional.
  • Preference will be given to current residents of BC.
