Job Description

Term of App #39;t: January - April 2025 Start date: January 3, 2025Reporting to: Dean of Academicamp; Vocational ProgramsSalary:$50.07 - $56.75 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications as per the BCGEU Faculty Collective Agreement. Temporary employees receive an additional 2% in lieu of benefits, 6% vacation and 4.2% statutory holiday pay included with each pay. Temporary faculty have the option to enroll in the College Pension Plan, with contributions matched by the employer.Description:NLC #39;s University Arts and Sciences program requires a sessional instructor to teach WATR 250: Introduction to Freshwater Resources.This course will provide student with an introduction to the science and practice of freshwater management with a focus on North-East BC watersheds and a range of applications for working in industry, local governments/First Nations and community organizations. The course is presented with a balance of perspectives, traditional knowledge integration and cross-cultural awareness to understanding basic principles and concepts of hydrology. It then covers key features and functions for understanding and maintaining a healthy watershed including riparian zones, wetlands, and water bodies are covered. Key concepts in water resource science related to limnology, surface/groundwater flows and quality protection are explored with a preliminary opportunity to apply field measurement techniques. Local issues and activities from various perspectives are presented with particular attention to the practice of source water and aquatic habitat protection, regulatory considerations and integrated water management.There will be a total of 132 hours assigned to the contract; delivery methods will involve in-person teaching on campus, with the instructor teaching once per week from each campus (Dawson Creek and Fort St John) and connecting to the other campus via videoconferencing. The contract hours includes travel between campuses.*** Courses will take place Mondayamp; Wednesday, from 4:15 - 5:40pm.Qualifications: Required:

  • Master #39;s degree in Environmental Science; or a closely related discipline.
  • Must be available to deliver the course on campus (this is not an online delivery course).
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and oral.
  • Committed to student motivation and achievement; and
  • Ability to function effectively as a team member through collaborative approaches to course pedagogy.
Preferred:
  • Ph.D. in Environmental Science, or a closely related discipline.
  • Five years of work experience in a related discipline.
  • The Provincial Instructor Diploma Program, or an equivalent credential in adult education, or a readiness to pursue such a credential.
  • Experience instructing a culturally diverse group of students, including Indigenous and international students.
