Job Description

Zagimē Anishinabēk is a progressive First Nations, located around 22 KM Northeast of the Town of Grenfell in Saskatchewan.SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Child and Family Wellness Representative Services Worker, the Liaison Support Worker supports Zagimē Anishinabēk’s members to have a voice when children, youth, and families from the community are involved/at risk of involvement with the child and family services system.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as a main contact between ZagimÄ“ AnishinabÄ“k and child and family service providers.
  • Exercise the rights and responsibilities of ZagimÄ“ AnishinabÄ“k under provincial, territorial, and federal child and family service laws.
  • Ensure that child and family service providers address the real needs of ZagimÄ“ children, youth, and families, including needs tied to culture, land and geography, and the effects of historical and contemporary disadvantage.
  • Build and maintain meaningful cultural, family, and community connections for ZagimÄ“ children, youth, and families involved with the child and family service system.
  • Facilitate the repatriation and/or reunification of ZagimÄ“ children and youth in care with their family and First Nation(s).
  • Support ZagimÄ“ children, youth, and families involved/at risk of involvement with the child and family service system outside of their home communities.
  • Participate in child and family service administrative and court proceedings.
  • Access legal resources to represent Zagimē’s interests in child and family service administrative and court proceedings.
  • Receive and respond to notices under provincial, territorial, and federal child and family service laws.
  • Support customary care, kinship care, and alternative care arrangements.
  • Provide or arrange for alternative dispute resolution.
  • Participate in the development and monitoring of service plans with child and family service providers.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Post-secondary training and/or experience working with and supporting children and families.
  • Knowledge and experience working with families who have experienced trauma, addictions, emotional and mental challenges.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture and historical trauma.
  • Conflict resolution skills.
  • Computer literacy, including effective working skills of Power Point, MS Word, Excel, and e-mail.
  • Excellent written, oral, and organizational skills.
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends when required.
