Job Description

Nasittuq provides exemplary support services to the Canadian Forces Station (CFS) Alert, situated in the Canadian Arctic. Our highly skilled workforce provides services that include all elements of facilities maintenance, airfield operations, food services, transport and logistical/administrative support to our customer, the Department of National Defence (DND).WE ARE LOOKING FOR ASSISTANT COOKSReporting to the Kitchen and Accommodation Supervisor, the Assistant Cook will be responsible for the provision of meals using healthy recipes in a cafeteria style self-service 365 days per year.Key Accountabilities:
  • Provide meals in accordance with approved cycle menu, in sufficient quantities of quality, wholesome food to feed personnel in accordance with the Daily Meal day diner forecast and ensure that as much as possible the last diner has the same choice as the first
  • For personnel who cannot make it to the dining hall, provide hot packs or cold box meals as required
  • Assist in menu planning, placing food orders and inventory control
  • Implement all food services in compliance with the Food Safety Code of Practice and be thoroughly familiar with and comply with the guide
  • Maintain and inspect all kitchen and food dispensing/storage areas on a daily basis
  • Ensure all equipment is operated and maintained in accordance with the manufacturers instructions and operating procedures
  • Participate in committee meetings as required, e.g. quality assurance, environment, health and safety etc.
  • Performs other duties assigned by a higher authority
Qualifications:
  • Apprentice Cook or Graduate Cook
  • Safe food handling training
  • 3+ years experience in food preparation services or catering for groups of 50+ people
  • Must be eligible for RELIABILITY security clearance, and must pass a company pre-employment medical
  • As an overnight stay in Thule Greenland is a requirement, must possess a valid passport
  • Ability to work cross-culturally and a strong team player is a must; will need to roll up sleeves and pitch in as and when required
Highlights:
  • The positions in Alert are Fly In/Fly out. Our permanent positions are 8x8 rotations (8 weeks on site, 8 weeks off site).
  • All travel expenses are paid by Nasittuq

  • Hours of work are typically 48 hours per week with overtime on short notice
