Job Description

Nasittuq provides exemplary support services to the Canadian Forces Station (CFS) Alert, situated in the Canadian Arctic. Our highly skilled workforce provides services that include all elements of facilities maintenance, airfield operations, food services, transport and logistical/administrative support to our customer, the Department of National Defence (DND).WE HAVE AN IMMEDIATE VACANCY FOR AENVIRONMENTAL TECHNICIAN / HAZARD WASTE TECHNICIANKey Accountabilities:
  • Picks up dumpsters, shreds contents, loads the incinerator and maintains 2 landfill sites
  • Coordinates the recycling program; ensures glass, plastic, tin and wood are disposed of as required
  • Receives, checks, inspects, certifies and controls incoming hazardous material received for storage
  • Pick up and transport hazardous material to and from DND storage sites or generation points
  • Properly labels hazardous material, trains personnel in handling of hazardous material and ensures the workplace has material safety data sheets
  • Responds to any spills and coordinates the collection and clean up generated from spills, and completes appropriate documentation (spill report)
  • Implements and maintains a Glycol Mitigation Plan and the Solid Waste Management Plan
  • Perform duties related to being a Fire Brigade member, e.g. will be on a rotational 24-hour on-call schedule, reacting as required to incidents
Qualifications:
  • HAZWOPER trained and possess a valid Class 5 Drivers License
  • 2+ years experience in collection, packaging, storage and disposal of solid waste and hazardous waste
  • Trained on hazardous waste disposal and in the collection, storage and disposal of solid waste
  • Diploma in environmental science is an asset
  • Proficient computer skills using Microsoft suite of products (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Must be eligible for ENHANCED RELIABILITY security clearance, and must pass a company pre-employment medical
  • Must possess a valid passport
  • Ability to work cross-culturally and a strong team player is a must; will need to roll up sleeves and pitch in as and when required
Highlights: The positions in Alert are Fly In/Fly out. Our permanent positions are 8x8 rotations (8 weeks on site, 8 weeks off site).
  • All travel expenses are paid by Nasittuq

  • Hours of work are typically 40 hours per week with overtime on short notice
  • 6% vacation pay in addition to the annual salary amounts
