Job Description

Nasittuq provides exemplary support services to the Canadian Forces Station (CFS) Alert, situated in the Canadian Arctic. Our highly skilled workforce provides services that include all elements of facilities maintenance, airfield operations, food services, transport and logistical/administrative support to our customer, the Department of National Defence (DND).WE HAVE A VACANCY FOR APOWER PLANT TECHNICIANKey Accountabilities:
  • Perform shop preventative and reoccurring inspections on the main and stand-by power plant equipment
  • Perform maintenance and test-runs on each generator system as well as APUs, UPS and ancillary/auxiliary equipment according to manufacturers’ recommendations
  • Respond to equipment failure and complete repairs
  • Respond to emergency calls/situations and other requirements
  • Maintain the Power Plant Operations Log and other documentation/reports for equipment, associated test-runs, etc
Qualifications:
  • Certified Diesel Mechanic with experience in Caterpillar co-generator systems, OR
  • Certified Industrial Electrician with experience in PLC control systems, OR
  • Certified Electrical Generating Systems (EGS) Technician
  • 5+ years’ experience in operation, maintenance of APUs, UPSs and fire booster pumps
  • 3+ years’ experience working with co-generation prime power diesel generators and auxiliary power unit systems
  • Must have experience in operating power plant such as paralleling generators, adjusting electrical load between multiple generators
  • Must be eligible for ENHANCED RELIABILITY security clearance and pass a pre-employment medical
  • Must possess a valid passport to overnight in Thule, Greenland during on-route to CFS Alert, NU
  • Ability to work cross-culturally and a strong team player is a must; will need to roll up sleeves and pitch in as and when required
Highlights:The positions in Alert are Fly In/Fly out. Our permanent positions are 8x8 rotations (8 weeks on site, 8 weeks off site).

  • Hours of work are typically 48 hours per week with overtime on short notice
  • 6% vacation pay in addition to the annual salary amounts
