Job Description

POSTING NO. LSS 22/23-01Lillooet Secondary School0.5 FTE Continuing Stàtimc Language/Culture TeacherEffective As Soon As PossibleLillooet Secondary School enrols approximately 220 students in Grades 8 through 12, of which 69% are of Indigenous ancestry. Lillooet Secondary is located in the town of Lillooet which lies on the unceded and traditional territory of the St’at’imc First Peoples. The school’s Action Plan for Learning goal, “To provide and education that addresses racism and reflect Indigenous values, knowledge and ways of knowing” guides the work of staff. Lillooet Secondary School is committed to building a high quality St’át’imc language program through strong pedagogy and student engagement.REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:The successful applicant must have or be eligible for membership in the Ministry of Education Teacher Regulation Branch, and possess:

  • Knowledge of Ministry of Education’s curriculum and core competencies.
  • Evidence of appropriate qualifications and experience in teaching St’át’imc language at the secondary level.
  • Ability to read, write and speak St’át’imcets.
  • A proven ability with assessment as and for learning strategies.
  • An understanding of the history and culture of the St’át’imc people.
  • The ability to use a variety of teaching and learning strategies that can accommodate the learning needs of all learners.
  • Successful experience integrating experiential and/or inquiry learning opportunities into the curriculum.
  • A proven ability to develop a positive learning environment in the classroom and evidence of strong organization and classroom management skills.
  • A commitment to and successful experience working collaboratively in a team setting.
  • A commitment to and demonstrated experience using and integrating technology into the curriculum.
  • The ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and the greater community.
  • A current, valid driver’s license and ability and willingness to travel as required.
  • Successful applicants must have a First Nations Language Teacher Certificate from the local language authority.
  • Candidates will require support of the St’at’imc Education Authority and Upper Státimc Language, Culture and Education Society (USLCES) to be successful.
