EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITYFire LoadersCompany name: FOREST PROTECTION LIMITEDAddress: Fredericton (Lincoln), New BrunswickTerm: seasonalEmployment Type: full timeForest Protection Limited (FPL) invites applications for the services of up to five Fire Loaders. These will be summer positions (Late April – Sept 2023) assisting with our wildfire operations. The successful candidates will be required to report to and be based out of FPL’s head office at the Fredericton Airport but could be deployed daily to various reload bases in Atlantic Canada.The Fire Loader’s role is to support FPL’s fleet of AT802 air tankers through quick and efficient refilling of their hoppers with water or fire retardant during a wildfire event, at various reload bases across the province. A fire loader’s efficient and emergency ready attitude is contrasted by the ability to handle a wide range of projects and tasks that fill the low-risk rainy days throughout the operational fire season.JOB DUTIESReporting to the Superintendent, Fire Support Operations, the Fire Loaders are focused primarily on the safe and efficient loading of air tanker aircraft used in the suppression of wildfires.

  • Setup & take down of aircraft loading systems & equipment.
  • Use of small engine equipment including pumps and generators.
  • Operate and maintain fire loading equipment including pumps, hose, valves, and generators.
  • Work around fixed-wing aircraft and flying in support aircraft as needed.
  • Variable-length shifts as well as work on weekends will be required.
  • General maintenance and support of other FPL operations as permitted by the fire season.
  • Adhere to the fire readiness and response airtanker alert levels as established by DNRED.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • A minimal requirement is high school diploma or equivalent
  • A willingness to fly in small, fast aircraft ahead of the AT802 Water Tankers to various reload bases throughout New Brunswick.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Proof of full Covid-19 Vaccination
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Personal transportation to and from the Fredericton Airport
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada and are required to obtain a Criminal Record Check.

  • Employee must provide CSA approved safety boots (all other protective equipment will be provided by FPL)
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
  • Some college or university level education is preferred
  • Related work experience
  • Bilingualism (English and French)
  • Previous experience with small engine equipment (gas powered pumps, generators, etc.).
  • Current Forklift Certificate
  • Special consideration will be given to students enrolled in programs related to the job duties (i.e., forestry, aviation, or the biosciences, etc.).
Salary will be hourly rate between $18-$20 per hour plus 4% vacation pay (based on an 8-hour workday, average 40-hours per week) and will be determined based on a combination of work experience and progress through your program of study.ABOUT USForest Protection Limited (FPL) is the largest 702 aerial operator in eastern Canada.
