Join the Team for the 2025 Municipal Election in Medicine Hat!What are you doing in October 2025 Want to contribute to your community and be part of the democratic process The City of Medicine Hat is hiring a variety of paid temporary positions to support the upcoming Municipal Election on October 20, 2025.We #39;re looking for dedicated individuals to fill the following roles:

  • Poll Supervisor (Presiding Deputy Returning Officer)
  • Assistant Poll Supervisor (Assistant Supervising Officer)
  • Ballot Clerk (Deputy Returning Officer)
  • Registration Clerk (Registration Officer)
  • Counting Assistant

Available roles Please review the attached Job Description document for additional details on each roleAssistant Poll Supervisor - (Assistant Supervising Officer)
  • Supervise voting station operations and staff.
  • Provide support to the Poll Supervisor and act in their absence.
  • Ensure proper opening/closing of polling stations and ballot count accuracy.
  • Election Day Shift: 8:00am-5:00pm
  • Election Evening Shift: 4:30pm-2:00am
  • Compensation: $350/day
Poll Supervisor - (Presiding Deputy Returning Officer)
  • Shifts available on Advance Voting Days (Oct 4, 14-18) and Election Day (October 20).
  • Oversee voting station staff and ensure smooth execution of all procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records and resolve voter concerns.
  • Election Day Shift: 8:00am-11:00pm
  • Compensation: $450/day (Election Day), $650/day (Advance Polling)
Ballot Clerk - (Deputy Returning Officer)
  • Shifts available on Advance Voting Days (Oct 4, 14-18) and Election Day (October 20).
  • Issue ballots and assist voters with the voting process.
  • Maintain ballot security and complete required documentation.
  • Advanced Votingamp; Election Day shifts available.
  • Election Day Shift: 9:00am - 5:00pm
  • Election Evening Shift: 4:30 pm - 2:00 am
  • Compensation: $280/day (Election Day), $400/day (Advance Polling)
Registration Clerk - (Registration Officer)
  • Shifts available on Advance Voting Days (Oct 4, 14-18) and Election Day (October 20).
  • Verify voter eligibility and handle registrations.
  • Direct voters and assist with the registration process and paperwork.
  • Election Day Shift: 9:00am - 9:00pm
  • Compensation: $280/day (Election Day), $400/day (Advance Polling)
Counting Assistant
  • Count ballots not tallied at polling stations.
  • Work at polling stations on Election Night (October 20) and/or at the Counting Centre from Oct 21-24.
  • Election Night Shift: 7:30pm-2:00am
  • Compensation: $240/day (Election Night), $200/day (Post-Election Days)
What you bring
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to follow procedures accurately and work in a team
  • Comfort with technology and/or paper-based processes
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure
  • Fluency in English (other languages an asset)
  • Ability to interact respectfully with diverse members of the public
  • Previous election or customer service experience is an asset
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Physical ability to lift up to 22 lbs (10 kg); some roles may require prolonged sitting
  • Some positions require access to a reliable vehicle, valid driver #39;s license, and insurance
