Join the City of Medicine Hat as an Event Technology SpecialistPermanent, Full time, On SiteAre you ready to elevate the event experience in the City of Medicine Hat We are seeking an innovative and dynamic Specialist, Event Technology to bring creativity and technical expertise to a wide range of events and productions. This role is at the heart of delivering exceptional event technology services across our city facilities. If you thrive on designing and implementing cutting-edge technology solutions and collaborating with diverse teams to create memorable experiences, this is your opportunity to shine.Your key responsibilities

  • Design, install, and maintain event technology systems and equipment throughout city facilities.
  • Collaborate with user groups, licensees, and renters on facility use, regulations, and requirements.
  • Manage all aspects of event technology, including rigging, sound, lighting, and projection.
  • Partner with City departments to identify and predict event technology needs, recommend solutions, and implement new technologies to enhance user experiences.
  • Advise on supplementary services or equipment required to fulfill contractual obligations.
  • Prepare necessary information and reports for the Manager - Guest Experienceamp; Operations.
  • Provide informational facility tours to the public and school groups as needed.
  • Participate in the training of facility volunteers and external user groups.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor or delegate.
What you bring
  • Knowledge of technical requirements for event planning and production.
  • Expertise in lighting and stage equipment, including the operation, maintenance, and understanding of technical requirements for diverse productions and events.
  • Effective decision-making skills with sound judgment and consistency.
  • Ability to work safely and adapt to various environments, including tight spaces, working at heights, and heavy lifting.
  • Proficiency in system networking, communication protocols, and integrating event technology into existing and new networks.
  • Familiarity with construction methods and codes relevant to event technology installations.
  • Strong organizational skills to prioritize and manage technical requirements effectively.
  • Excellent communication and public relations skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, ERP systems, and specialized software like CAD, audio DSP, and lighting network applications.
  • Commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards, with knowledge of relevant legislation.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision.
Qualifications
  • Completion of a two (2) year diploma in technical theatre or a related discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • Two (2) years of relevant experience, including:
    • One (1) year of direct experience in production coordination or technical direction.
    • One (1) year of diverse stage management and technical experience.
  • An equivalent combination of management-approved training and professional events industry experience may be considered.
