CHILD ANDYOUTH WORKERTheChild and Youth Worker will be responsible for the delivery of social-emotionaland behavioural programs to support educational programs under the direction ofthe Mental Health Team. The successful candidate will assist the team in thedevelopment of programs and activities for individual needs, specifically,alternative programming for social skills and self regulation that is outlinedin the Individual Education Plan (IEP). CYWs will also provide supportivecounselling and group interventions to assist students under the clinicalsupervision of an area Social Worker, liaise between home, school and socialservice agencies, and support safety plans.Itinerantpositions:ItinerantCYWs will provide support for two elementary schools with regularly scheduledtimes at each of their respective schools. CYWs will respond to school-basedrequests and support students focusing on socio-emotional learning throughgroups (Friends, CBT, Roots of Empathy etc.), as well as providing one-on-onesupport under the clinical supervision of an area Social Worker. Itinerant CYWswill also support and implement universal and targeted strategies andinitiatives within their schools and classrooms that promote student well-beingas it relates to learning. Experience with behaviour managementtechniques and strategies and the implementation of behaviour plans. Knowledgeof mental health, cultural and social issues impacting youth. Excellentcommunication, interpersonal, organizational skills, problem solving skills andthe ability to work independently and as a team member. Ability to adapt tochanging situations in the workplace. Ability to maintain confidentialinformation. Basic skills in various software applications, e.g. MS Office.Preferred : Knowledge of Simcoe CountyDistrict School Board Policies, Administrative Procedures Memoranda andNumbered Memoranda. Knowledge of community and social service agencies. Knowledgeof social emotional skill development strategies. Knowledge of drug and alcohol interventionstrategies. Previous counselling experience, particularly Cognitive BehavioralTherapy and Mindfulness approaches. Knowledge of board approved crisisintervention programs, e.g. Behaviour Management Systems (BMS). First Aid andCPR Certificate. Well developed mediation skills.
