Job Description

Are you a dependable and organized individual with experience working in a fast-paced environment If so, then consider this opportunity with the Ministry of the Solicitor General where you will oversee and provide training in the area of exhibit, asset and inventory management for Fire Investigation Services within the Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management.What can I expect to do in this roleYou will:

  • oversee the physical exhibit, asset and inventory management programs;
  • prepare, coordinate and present material for lectures, seminars and training;
  • perform administrative responsibilities in support of investigation and related activities;
  • assist with the development of the Fire Investigations Standard Operating Procedures and systems;
  • travel throughout the province to assist with investigations at fire, explosions or other related events.
How do I qualifyMandatory
  • you have a valid class G drivers license
Technical Knowledge and Experience
  • You have knowledge of and experience with exhibit, asset and inventory management procedures and practices.
  • You have knowledge of the mandate of the (OFMEM), the Fire Investigation Standard Operating Procedures and relevant legislation (i.e. Fire Protection and Prevention Act, Canada Evidence Act, Criminal Code of Canada, Coroners Act, Freedom of Information Act).
  • You have experience with the use and operations of various investigative and personal protective equipment.
  • You have experience with legislation and best practices related to the safe storage, handling and disposal of dangerous goods such as, bio-hazardous material, gasoline, fire debris (waste), compressed gas and gaseous fuels.
  • You can recognize the risks associated with the handling of evidence that may be contaminated with bio-hazardous material, asbestos or other noxious substances.
Organizational and Coordination Skills
  • You have organizational and planning skills to coordinate and assess tasks, duties and projects to meet stringent deadlines.
  • You have time management skills to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with conflicting demands and tight deadlines.
  • You can follow up on correspondence and work requests to ensure appropriate timelines are met.
Research, Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills
  • You have demonstrated research and evaluation skills to conduct program evaluations, needs analysis, compile and analyze data and to identify trends and issues.
  • You have problem solving skills to identify issues and determine resolutions.
  • You have analytical skills to ensure the adequacy and readiness of equipment.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills
  • You have proven verbal communication skills to deliver presentations, conduct training sessions and ensure the concepts of programs are effectively conveyed.
  • You have conflict management and interpersonal skills to deal with possible disagreements surrounding the continuity, handling and disposition of exhibits, assets or inventory.
  • You have judgement, tact and discretion when dealing with sensitive and confidential matters.
Computer Skills
  • You are proficient with computer software such as the Microsoft Office Suite to prepare presentations, training, reports and correspondence.
  • You have experience with various database systems in order to maintain and evaluate data and manage exhibits assets and inventory.
