Job Description

PLANNING TECHNICIANSalaryRange: $48,945 - $61,187 per year1.0FTE PermanentThe SimcoeCounty District School Board is seeking qualified applicants for the positionof Planning Technician. Reporting to the Manager of Planning, Enrolment andCommunity Use, the successful candidate will be responsible for the ongoing development,collection, maintenance, and support of the board’s Geographic InformationSystem (GIS) and land use development tracking system used by the department. A key component of this position requirescoordinating, analyzing, and preparing various datasets (i.e., municipaldevelopment data, enrolment data etc.) for mapping to be used in presentations,notices, research projects and other public documents, as required. Thisposition will assist the department in the review of municipal planningapplications and documents and will respond to mapping, accommodation and otherschool board related inquiries from the public or other stakeholders. Knowledgeof relevant legislation, guidelines and other documents would be considered anasset. The successful candidate will promote a team environment to meetestablished standards for service delivery.Qualifications and Skills Required:

University Degree or College Diplomain Planning or a related field;
Demonstrated experience andproficiency with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), specifically with Esri’sArcGIS Desktop software including ArcMap Desktop, ArcGIS Online products andArcGIS Pro;
Knowledge of programming andscripting skills including HTML;
Up to six (6) months experienceis required, preferably in an education environment;
In depth knowledge of databasesoftware management and spatial industry resources;
Knowledge of and experiencewith land use and municipal planning processes considered an asset;
Pursuing or has acquiredongoing professional development associated with GIS software and programing;
Strong organization and communicationskills are required;
A valid driver’s license andreliable vehicle are required as this position may require travel;
Other duties as assigned.Thisis a full-time permanent position. The regular work year for this position is twelve(12) months of the year. The compensation range for this twelve (12) monthposition is $48,945 - $61,187 per year, depending on qualifications andexperience.
