Job Description

The Simcoe County District School Board is accepting applications for the following position:Summer Writing Contract: Grade 9 De-streamed Science (1 position)to be completed by August 4, 2022The successful candidates to the Writing Contract: Grade 9 De-streamed Science posting will collaborate on the creation of a Grade 9 Scope and Sequence document with corresponding resources, as well as a First 20 Days’ tool to support educators to establish effective culturally-responsive instruction, assessment, and evaluation practices in multi-level classrooms. Candidates will also develop professional learning for Grade 9 Science educators for one of the September PA days.Candidates will have system-level expertise related to the development and facilitation of effective professional learning in science, and will develop professional learning for Grade 9 Science educators with a focus on building learner profiles and delivering responsive instruction.Successful applicants will be compensated at the Common Rate ($44.58/hour x 30 hours plus benefits)REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSAn Ontario Teacher’s Certificate of QualificationA University DegreeQualifications to teach in two divisions (junior/intermediate or intermediate/senior preferred)Specialist in Science or Honour Specialist in Science (preferred) or Science teaching qualificationDistrict or system level experience in a Science-related role (preferred)Five or more years Science teaching experienceKEY COMPETENCIES OF THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTSuccessful applicants for curriculum writing team will have:Science content and pedagogical knowledge for teaching and leading;knowledge of current science curriculum, Grades 8-9a repertoire of effective evidence-informed instructional strategies to engage students in learning;in-depth knowledge of assessment, evaluation and reporting;experience using a variety of digital tools to support online instruction, assessment and student engagement;an ability to align professional learning with system priorities;experience in the design and facilitation of effective professional learning;experience working in collaboration with colleagues;excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills; anda knowledge of the following documents:The Ontario Curriculum, Grades 1 to 8: Science and Technology (2007), Revised (2022);The Ontario Curriculum, Grades 9 and 10: Science (2008);The Ontario Curriculum, Grades 11 and 12: Science (2008);Growing Success – Assessment, Evaluation and Reporting in Ontario Schools (1-12);Growing Success, The Kindergarten Addendum – Assessment, Evaluation and Reporting in Ontario Schools;Ontario Schools – Policy and Program Requirements (K-12);School Effectiveness Framework – A support for school improvement and student success (K-12);Learning for All – A Guide to Effective Assessment and Instruction for All Students (K-12);Creating Pathways to Success, An Education and Career/Life Planning Program for Ontario Schools: Policy and Program Requirements (K-12); andOntario First Nation, Metis and Inuit Education Policy Framework 2007.RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTThe Science writing team member will:create a Scope and Sequence for Grade 9 Science aligned with the new curriculumcreate First 20 Days’ resources to support educators to establish effective culturally-responsive instruction, assessment, and evaluation practices in multi-level classroomsdesign professional learning for secondary educators related to the planning, implementation and assessment of the Ontario Ministry of Education’s new Grade 9 Science curriculumbuild educator capacity related to the components of an effective Science program, effective pedagogical practices and the implementation of gap closing and transition strategies for students who are experiencing difficulties with learning and/or engagement;other responsibilities to be determined based on the emerging learning needs of the systemApplications will be received through the Apply to Education Website (www.applytoeducation.com) until 4 pm on Tuesday, May 10, 2022.
