Job Description

Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH), is located in the Southern Georgian Bay community of Midland, Ontario (90 minutes north of Toronto). This beautiful community is nestled on the shores of Georgian Bay. Midland offers an environment where a healthy work/life balance is easy to achieve. Catchment area of over 55,000 annual residents and summer population of 200,000.Check out our community here:URL blocked - click to applyPOSITION SUMMARY:The community of Midland/Penetanguishene on Georgian Bay, requires a community-based Ophthalmologist providing comprehensive ophthalmic care at Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH) in Midland. The position requires a permanent location of office and surgical practice full-time to the Midland catchment area. There is an opportunity to join an existing busy practice, with opportunities depended on funded cases, for multiple Operating days, primarily cataracts.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:RESPONSIBILITIES:On-Call:

  • Provision of regional on-call services covering LHIN 12 (currently 1 in 7)
In-Patient:
  • Consultation for GBGH credentialed staff Peri-operative management of own patients
  • Participation and cooperation as a contributing team member
Out-Patient:
  • Provision of care for all patient types including surgical, pediatric, medical, and chronic care patients, sharing these different types of patients in an equitable and community-oriented manner with other members of the division.
  • Includes minor lid, facial procedures, ophthalmic laser treatments and intraocular injections. Includes OR time for cataracts, trauma or other procedures not appropriate for ambulatory care.
Job Requirements:Surgical Volumes: QBP funded cases for primarily cataracts at Georgian Bay General hospital.Equipment within the office:
  • Three examining rooms
  • Two full time technicians
  • In office intravitreal injection infostructure
  • Diagnostic equipment includes OCT, IOLM biometry, topography visual field
  • Fundes camera
Hospital resources:
  • YAG and Diode laser
  • Treatment Room for minor procedures
  • Operating Room resources for cataracts & complex ocular surgeries
  • ER Equipped with slit-lamp and ophthalmoscopy for on-call services.
QUALIFICATIONS:This position is open to an ophthalmic surgeon who has an Ontario license and has been certified by the Royal College within the last seven years.Education:College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) unrestricted license that allows the physician to fulfil the requirements of this position. Fellowship in Ophthalmology recognized by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC).Experience:
  • Previous ophthalmology experience preferred of Prematurity examinations
  • Must have demonstrated proficiency in cataract surgery including excellent outcomes and efficient use of resources;

  • Function effectively as a consultant, integrating all of the CanMEDS roles to provide optimal, ethical and patient-centred medical care; Establish and maintain clinical knowledge, skills and attitudes appropriate to your practice;
  • Perform complete and appropriate assessments of patients; Use preventive and therapeutic interventions effectively;
  • Demonstrate proficient and appropriate use of procedural skills, both diagnostic and therapeutic; Seek appropriate consultation from other health professionals, recognizing the limits of their expertise.
