We are seeking talented and passionate people who enjoy working in a collaborative, innovative environment to join our dynamic team.Reporting to the Moore Site Material Flow Supervisor, the Material Handling Technicians will work in the Material Handling & Raw Material support areas of the Moore Site.Material Handling encompasses the blending, classifying, loading, and shipping of polyethylene product in rail cars; the operation of the rail yard; and the cleaning of hopper cars for product loading.You Will Use Your Expertise to:Safely, efficiently, and reliably operate the pneumatic equipment including operation of a diesel locomotivePrepare equipment for maintenance and safe work permittingEnsure NOVA Chemicals safe work practices and policies are maintained at all timesComplete area safety checks and respond to hazards in the areaConduct preventative maintenance of equipment (i.e.: rounds and checks)Monitor unit conditions on an ongoing basis and carry out troubleshooting steps to address identified issuesImplement changes to operating parameters to optimize unit performanceMaintain housekeeping standards within the Operating unitParticipate in team safety meetings, safety audits and follow-upsParticipate in procedure reviewsSupport and participate in on-site and regional Emergency Response TeamsAdditional Duties in the Following Areas Include:Packaging Operations (Boxing)Knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures and equipment troubleshooting throughout packagingManual preparation of corrugated boxes, fill operation, monitoring and final capping/stenciling of boxesComplete sample checks of packaging production for QC Lab analysisOperating fork trucks for movement of finished packaged boxed product to warehouse storageDocumentation of reports/logs (packaged Production, Operating Logs)Computer SAP and SAP-OSEM entries of packaging production dataTruck Loading and Warehouse OperationsKnowledge of Standard Operating Procedures and equipment troubleshootingInspection / equipment checks on fork trucks, door hydraulic ramps/controls, product storage safetyFork truck loading of highway vans and containers for shipment of packaged productFork truck off-loading, inspection and storage of incoming Raw Materials and supplies. Inputting material which passes the C of A into SAP InventoryVerification of and documentation of packaging volumes to external customers; incoming product to NOVA; and conduct periodic inventory of warehouse productMaintain communications with Transportation Scheduling group on priorities and driver representativesDocumentation of reports/logs (Operating Logs)Material Flow Outside Area DutiesMaintain the cleanliness of the Material Flow units (washing, sweeping, garbage’s, etc.)Cleansing of all process waterways, ditches, ponds, etc.Semi-Annual washing down of production and packaging bins to maintain ISO qualifying standardsQuality sampling of finished goods in the railcars (as required)Emptying trashrecycle lugers throughout both areasManaging out of full lab “scrap” ton packs (weighing, storage, and shipping.)Ensuring loading barn is stocked up with cable seals and additivesSpill response. Resin/ PowderDocumentation of reports/logs (Operating Logs)Locomotive OperationsKnowledge of Railyard layout, switches, derailsKnowledge of Standard Operating Procedures and equipment troubleshooting capabilitiesEquipment checks, start-up, operating and shutdown of Diesel Locomotive(s)Documentation of various reports (equipment checklists, car movements)Locomotive OperatorOperates locomotive and maintains safe operating speed throughout Railyard while being guided by Brakeman through radio communications on car movements (start, stop movements)Brakeman OperatorResponsible for radio communications instructions to locomotive operator on safe distances/speeds to reach and couple to stationary rail carsApplies or sets air and/or hand brakes on hopper carsOperates/sets derails and rail switches for all car movements throughout the RailyardShunt Crew OperationsPerforms all technical functions / duties outlined for Locomotive Operations noted aboveResponsible for operating, equipment checks and troubleshooting for Plant Weigh ScaleShunt individual cars for completing weight checks / entry of hopper car weights and performing periodic check of weigh scale accuracy with aid of Weigh Scale Test CarMovement of rail cars within Railyard, Loading Barns, for shipment; for off-loading to bulk trucks; or other purposes, as well as for storageMaintain communications with Transportation Scheduling group and MF DCS Board Operator for priority setting / needsDocumentation of reports (H/C production weights, scale tickets, yard line-ups, H/C inventory via SAP/GVP)Computer entry of H/C movementsInspection of Inbound railcars (Security and Logistics Inspections)Documentation of reports/logs (Operating Logs)What We Are Looking For:A secondary school diploma is requiredPost-secondary education would be considered an assetDemonstrated ability to troubleshoot operating problemsWell-developed interpersonal skills, high levels of personal motivation, and ability to adapt to changeThe ability to work effectively and contribute within a team environmentEffective communication skills to cope with a wide variety of operational priorities and work activitiesComputer Applications experience (PC Based Systems, Software, SAP, Microsoft)An absolute commitment to Responsible Care®A demonstrated ability to learn and apply new technical concepts in a timely mannerThe ability to take initiative and be proactive in actionsThe ability to complete multiple tasks in a fast paced, stressful environmentMechanical, and /or Electrical aptitudeDiesel Locomotive Operations (SW 900 Locomotives)Forklift Truck TrainingQuality Control experience (ISO Program/Systems)Railway Equipment/Inspection experience (Hopper Cars, Scales, Switches, D-Rails)Customer orientation with a demonstrated ability to fulfill internal and external stakeholder expectationsTargeted Safety and Health training and/or experience (e.g., WHMIS/MSDS, Fire Equipment, Environmental Spills, First Aid/CPR, AED/02, Personal Protective EquipmentYou Can Stand Out If: You are passionate about your work and put care and thought into all that you do. Sarnia is situated on the south shore of Lake Huron at the headwaters of the St. Clair River, and just an hour from Detroit, Michigan, United States.Additional Information:Relocation will NOT be considered for this positionCompensation will be commensurate with education and experienceThis position will work on a seven (7) day, twelve (12) hour rotating days/nights scheduleWork will be conducted both indoors and outdoors in all seasonsPositions will include some lifting and climbing of ladders within various levels of the unitsOvertime and callouts are a requirement of the role due to the 24 hour per day plant operationIn order to fulfil the duties of this role, the successful candidate will be required to wear respiratory protective equipment.
