Employment Type:Casual, Bargaining Unit (multiple positions)Work Hours:Fluctuating Hours Work Setting: Exclusively OnsiteSalary:E1 - $20.53Application Deadline:Open until filledProgram Overview – Child Careamp; Family Services, All SitesThe Child Careamp; Family Services Program Statement goals and approaches will be implemented using the Early Learning Framework to document and support each child through play-based emergent curriculum and inquiry-based learning opportunities. The childcare programs are designed to encourage and help children grow and develop in order to maximize their individual potential within a group setting. We focus on providing an anti-bias curriculum, working to promote each child #39;s positive self-identity, sense of community, and critical thinking skills.This position is responsible for contributing to the provision of quality childcare services to children under care and their families in accordance with the Unit #39;s Program Statement, policies and procedures, and all applicable legislation, while promoting a balanced and equal partnership between parents and staff.What You Will Do

  • Responsible for the guidance and care of children in groups and for the planning and implementation of daily programs that enhance the social, physical, intellectual, cognitive, and emotional development of children.
  • Responsible for setting reasonable limits according to the child #39;s developmental stage, and for giving appropriate direction, encouragement, and support individually and in groups, including providing extra stimulation to help delayed children when necessary.
  • Responsible for recognizing, dealing with, and defining unusual behaviour and, if unable to deal with behaviour successfully, reporting to Manager and work with various professional and resource persons to alleviate issues.
  • Responsible for recording the daily attendance of the children and receiving medical information, especially in cases of ongoing absenteeism.
  • Responsible for the daily safety, health, and hygienic conditions of the children.
  • Responsible for safely escorting children outside of the centre and ensuring that adequate supervision is provided on all outings.
  • Responsible for written daily reports, for completing written assessments and developmental checklists, and for informing parents on an on-going basis about children #39;s progress.
  • Responsible for the upkeep of equipment and furnishings and for informing the Manager when replenishment is necessary, for sharing housekeeping responsibilities, and for assessing equipment needs and making recommendations regarding purchases.
  • Responsible for reporting any signs of physical or mental abuse of any children in care to the proper authorities.
  • Responsible for performing housekeeping duties.
What You Bring to the Team
  • Early Childhood Assistant Certificate OR proof of completion of one year of Early Childhood Education program at a recognized Ontario College.
  • Valid Standard First Aid/CPR-C.
  • Health assessment including up-to-date immunization records and TB test required.

  • Ability to work cooperatively with others and provide work direction as required.
  • Ability to use professional judgement daily within guidelines established by the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014, City of Toronto’s Assessment for Quality Improvement (AQI) and program policies.Consults/reports non-routine situations to manager or other staff.
  • Ability to accommodate competing demands.
  • Ability to maintain neat and accurate records and prepare reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all information related to children, parents, staff.
  • Ability to carry/lift children and carry/lift/move moderately heavy items.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time; to work at the height of children.
  • Willingness to work in conditions involving exposure to bodily fluids, infectious diseases; frequent high noise levels; occasional inclement weather.
