With over 120,000 residents, Ajaxs rich heritage and culturally diverse community make it a great place to work and live.Summer Camps & Playgrounds and March Break Camps:Camp Counsellors and Playground Leaders are responsible for the planning and implementation of a safe, enjoyable and diverse program for children and youth ages 3 - 16 years.Job Duties:Develop and implement a safe, enjoyable and diverse program (including special events and theme days)Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during program hoursWork cooperatively and maintain ongoing and effective communication with participants, parents, colleagues and supervisorsAdhere to all Town policies and procedures while acting in a professional manner at all times.Perform daily site checks and ensure that the necessary equipment and supplies are available in safe conditionTake appropriate action to deal with incidents/accidents and emergencies, as outlined in the departmental policies and proceduresComplete and submit administrative tasks (program plans, attendance forms, etc) within the specified deadlines.Assist in the development and implementation of adaptive programming for participants with special needsBe actively involved in leading activities during program hoursResponsible for daily opening and closing procedures at camp locationsAbility to work outdoors and participate in swim trips (comfortable in the water)Qualifications:Must be a minimum of 16 years of age or older by March 8, 2022 for March Break Camps and June 1, 2022 for summer positionsKnowledge and experience related to the delivery of recreation/camp programs would be an assetExperience working with childrenStandard First Aid with CPR C (If hired, must be obtained by March 8, 2022 for March Break Camps and June 27, 2022 for summer camps.)HIGH FIVE - Principles of Healthy Child Development (If hired, must be obtained by March 8, 2022 for March Break Camps and June 27, 2022 for summer camps.)Ability to provide a current (within six months) Criminal Reference/Vulnerable Sector Check upon being hiredFor March Break Camp, must be available to work the full week (March 14-18, 2022) and attend all mandatory training dates (Orientation and March Break Training)For Summer Camp, must be available to work the full 8 weeks of summer and attend all pre-summer mandatory training dates (Orientation and Summer Staff Training)Hours of Work:March Break Camp Counsellors – Monday to Friday – various shifts between 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (paid lunch)Summer Camp Counsellors - Monday to Friday - various 6-8 hours shifts between the hours of 7:00 a.m and 6:00 p.m. (paid lunch)Playground Leader - Monday to Thursday 8:45 am - 4:15 pm, Fridays 8:45 am - 12:15 pm and 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm (unpaid lunch)March Break CampKey Dates for March Break Camps:Formal Interviews – The week of January 25-29, 2022Active Interview – January 29, 2022Staff Orientation – March 8, 2022Behaviour Management Systems Training – March 11, 2022Summer Staff Training – March 12, 2022Camps begin – March 14, 2022Camps end – March 18, 2022Summer Camp/PlaygroundsKey Dates for Summer Camps and Playgrounds:Formal Interviews – The week of January 25-29, 2022Active Interview – January 29, 2022Staff Orientation – May 30, 2022 or June 1, 2022Summer Staff Training - June 18, June 27-30, 2022Camps / Playgrounds begin - July 4, 2022Camps / Playgrounds end - August 26, 2022*
