With over 130,000 residents, Ajaxs rich heritage and culturally diverse community make it a great place to work and live.Community Recreation Supervisor, Inclusion & Contracted Services - Temporary Full Time (13-month contract):Reporting to the Manager of Recreation Programs and Active Living, the Community Recreation Supervisor –Inclusion Services & Contracted Programs is accountable for quality assurance, program and service development, planning, administration and financial management of designated portfolio. The Community Recreation Supervisor engages residents, community organizations/groups, and community partners to deliver a wide variety of accessible recreation programs/services/events to meet the needs of a growing and diverse community. This position provides leadership to part-time staff and volunteers and ensures all areas of portfolio run efficiently and effectivelyJob Duties:

  • Develops, plans, implements, supervises, evaluates contracted service programs, inclusion programs and special events
  • Develops relationships and partnerships with community agencies and contracted service providers to further develop programs and services for community
  • Oversees seasonal programs, March Break and Summer Camps for multiple age groups at a variety of locations through contracted service providers
  • Provide expertise to the community and department in the area of inclusion services
  • Advises residents on services provided by the Town of Ajax and external agencies, including: funding opportunities, respite services, therapeutic recreation and behavior assessment/intervention
  • Conducts confidential meetings with families/caregivers of participants with special needs who are participating in Town of Ajax recreation programs. Discuss needs and accommodations and develop plans for successful program inclusion
  • Acquires and maintains adaptive equipment for use in recreation programs and camps
  • Represents department through networking/liaising with appropriate agencies/stakeholders and attending related community events providing expertise and guidance on inclusion related issues and initiatives
  • Monitor statistics and conduct needs assessments that inform service development to be reflective of community needs and industry trends
  • Makes recommendation for hiring, discipline and dismissal as required
  • Selects, trains, coaches, and supervises a large team of part time staff
  • Develops and hosts trainings for recreation program volunteers for seasonal programs, March Break Camps, and Summer Camps/Playground Programs. Creates and monitors volunteer opportunities and registrations in Better Impact software.
Qualifications/Skills:
  • College Diploma or University Degree in Recreation & Leisure Studies or a related discipline
  • Minimum four (4) years’ progressively responsible experience in recreation or related field with a minimum 2 years’ supervisory experience or a combination of training, education and experience deemed equivalent
  • Experience in all areas aspects of staff management including recruitment, selection, training, coaching and supervision
  • Excellent leadership, oral and written communication, organization and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated decision-making capabilities
  • Experience in the administration and implementation of budgets
  • Experience working with children and youth in a recreational setting
  • Knowledge and experience related to the development of children’s recreation programming and services is preferred
  • Experience/familiarity community outreach and developing programming partnerships
  • Experience working with and/or supervision of inclusion participants and programs
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Proven skills in ActiveNet registration software
  • Proficient internet-based skills
  • Valid Standard First Aid & CPR C
  • HIGH FIVE - Principles of Healthy Child Development
  • HIGH FIVE - Quest 2 preferred
  • Valid Class ‘G’ driver’s license with clean abstract
  • Able to supply a satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/ Vulnerable Sector Check that is satisfactory to the Town (dated within six months), upon being hired
What We Offer to Staff:
  • Rate of pay: $44.17 - $49.08 per hour
  • Work hours: This 13-month contract is a full time non-union position that works 35 hours per week. Successful candidates must be able to work Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., with a willingness to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends to accommodate program needs
