Job Description

With over 130,000 residents, Ajaxs rich heritage and culturally diverse community make it a great place to work and live.Part Time Preschool Assistant:Under the direct supervision of the Community Recreation Supervisor, the Preschool Assistant is accountable for assisting in the preparation and implementation of a variety of activities (circle time, free play, crafts, etc.) to assigned classes (children up to age 5), in the pre-school area (all three centres).Job Duties Include:

  • Assist in implementing a safe, enjoyable and diversified preschool program in coordination with the Lead Preschool Instructor
  • Engage participants in the program to have a fun time while learning social, physical and educational programming
  • In accordance with the specific program goals and objectives, deliver a variety of activities (circle time, free play, crafts, etc.) and ensure a high level of quality
  • Assist in implementing special events and theme days
  • Promote an environment of safety and respect among participants (co-operation, sharing, positive behaviour) and promote individual growth in developmental areas appropriate to participant age (fine/gross motors skills, speech, etc)
  • Maintain ongoing effective communications with parents, public, co-workers and Community Recreation Supervisor
  • Abide by Town policies and procedures and act in a professional manner at all times
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during program hours
  • Monitor and control access to the program and facility
  • Ensure effective public relations and problem solve as necessary
  • Take appropriate action to deal with incidents, problems and emergencies, as outlined in the departmental/corporate policies and procedures
  • Ensure the effective administration of behaviour management techniques when dealing with participant issues
  • Handle concerns, complaints or suggestions about the program from parents and public in a professional manner, and pass these on to the Supervisor; ensure that complaints and suggestions are appropriately documented on Customer Feedback Forms
Qualifications/Skills:
  • Minimum Grade 12 high school diploma
  • Early Childhood Education Diploma would be an asset
  • Minimum one year experience related to the delivery of recreation programs
  • Experience working with preschool age children
  • Excellent organization, time management and planning skills
  • Self-motivated, positive, confident and approachable
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Valid Standard First Aid with CPR C
  • HIGH FIVE - Principles of Healthy Child Development
  • Able to provide a current (within six months) Criminal Reference/Vulnerable Sector Check upon being hired
