The Monteith Correctional Complex, Ministry of the Solicitor General has a dynamic opportunity as Classification Officer, where you will use your interviewing and program planning skills to provide classification and discharge planning for inmates.   • Provide classification and discharge planning for inmates through interviewing and soliciting information from inmates, police, family, schools, professionals
  • Assess inmate needs and identify possible program plans
  • Liaise with institutional staff such as health care, social workers, security, to assist in assessing needs and alerting to potential inmate risks
  • Determine suitability of inmates for institutional work placement
  • Provide advice and crisis intervention counselling to inmates
  • Refer inmates to programs, resources and classification resources as well as volunteers, professionals, community agencies for treatment, training, education and counselling
How do I qualifyMandatory
  • You are proficient in English as well as in oral French at the advanced level
Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
  • You have demonstrated experience providing assessment and discharging planning for clients
  • You demonstrate interviewing skills to obtain information from inmates, police, family, schools, professionals
  • You have expertise in crisis intervention counselling with ability to make community referrals as appropriate
  • You can assess client needs and recommend program plans
Other Essential Skills:
  • You have demonstrated oral and written communication skills used in interviewing, counselling, and report documentation, liaising with inmates and all levels of interdisciplinary staff
  • You have demonstrated interpersonal skills to interact with inmates and all levels of interdisciplinary staff
  • You have analytical skills to compile information from reports and assessments
