The incumbent is responsible for teaching six (in the case of a 9.5-month contract) or seven three-credit courses per year, and for some administrative and other service roles within the academic unit. Up to two subsequent 12-month appointments may be possible, subject to satisfactory job performance, academic unit need, and budgetary approval.The Department of Creative Arts Therapies in the Faculty of Fine Arts invites applications for one 9.5-month LTA position in Music Therapy at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses within our music therapy graduate programs, undertake the clinical supervision of students, collaborate with the internship coordinator and music therapy faculty to help organize and oversee student internship placements, and participate in the annual admission process. Other responsibilities include participation in departmental committee meetings: department council, curriculum, supervision, and research, as well as active involvement in administrative work that accompanies these service duties.Qualifications and assetsWe are seeking a candidate who demonstrates an authentic commitment to social justice through the intentional integration of equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility principles across teaching and clinical practice. Applicants for this position should have an MA or PhD in Music Therapy or be nearing completion of their doctoral thesis in Music Therapy (ABD). Professional certification as a music therapist is required: Certified Music Therapist (MTA in good standing from the Canadian Association of Music Therapists), Music Therapist-Board Certified (MT-BC from the Certification Board for Music Therapists) or equivalent. Applicants should have a record of excellence in teaching music therapy, extensive clinical experience as a music therapist working with a range of individuals and groups in various settings, proven research literacy expertise, and demonstrated skill and experience in clinical supervision. Preference will be given to candidates with proven evidence of their commitment to the development and integration of innovative music therapy and health promotion initiatives throughout all their professional endeavours.Candidates are encouraged to share any career interruptions or personal circumstances that may have had an impact on their career goals in their letter of application.
