The position provides direct support for the payroll process with adherence to Payroll policies and procedures. This position requires employee supervising. Regular communication to internal and external customers, ad-hoc report development for special projects and provides support for the month end / year end closing process including preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations.This position is located in Montreal, in a hybrid mode.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Payroll Functions:

  • Audit payroll, including terminations, timesheets, special payments, adjustments and changes, in order to produce the employee payroll (hourly and salary).
  • Maintains payroll system (new union rates, vacation rates, vacation payout, etc)
  • System administrator for time & attendance system. No configuration required.
  • Updates, manages and maintains comprehensive payroll records.
  • Responsible for ensuring additional pay components such as but not limited to allowances, garnishments, loans etc. are updated and processed timely.
  • Assists with processing, researching and auditing all additional pay requests.
  • Verify remittances to the governments, including income tax, health insurance, various unions, social clubs, workers compensation boards, CSST/WCB etc.
  • Provides excellent customer service on a timely basis for managers regarding payroll related issues.
  • Responsible for managing group mailbox requests.
  • Creation of new payroll pay components.
  • Oversee day-to-day operation for Canadian and US payroll process.
  • Responsible partially for Year End activities and work with the payroll team to ensure compliance and completeness on time.
Supervision:
  • Monitoring performance of team members. Report performance reviews.
  • Propose training needs and provide coaching.
  • Delegate tasks and set deadlines maximizing team productivity.
Other:
  • Provide hand-on support for payroll manager in any process required.
Competencies and ProfileREQUIRED EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Professional Certification (Preferable).
  • Possess a college diploma or equivalent;
  • Be an accredited member of the National Payroll Institute (ACP/INP)
  • Minimum of 5 year payroll experience.
  • Training team leading. (Team communication, Decision making and conflict resolution, Team mobilization, and others)
