Job Description

POSITION/TITLE: Dietetic Intern/StudentDEPARTMENT: D-CampsREPORTS TO: Lead DieticianABOUT THE ROLE:Reporting to and under the supervision of the Lead Dietician, Dietetic Interns are responsible for ensuring all camper and staff nutrition needs are being met. Dietetic Interns will support the Registered Dietitians in working closely with the kitchen to ensure that food selections and any substitutions to the menu are appropriate, assist in portioning of food, and supporting campers in learning new diabetes management skills. Dietetic Interns are a vital part of the camp community and are encouraged to participate in camp programming.SOME HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DIETETIC INTERN ROLE INCLUDE:1. Upon arrival/registration day reviews submitted meal plan information with camper and parent.2. Participates in the diabetes education orientation as required.3. Interacts with cook and kitchen staff as necessary4. Assists campers with meal and snack selection5. Adjusts camper’s meal to coordinate with camp activities/exercise and camping routines.6. Communicates with/supervises/supports multidisciplinary team regarding diabetes management issues.7. Works with Camp Dietitian Coordinator to provide all necessary reports and on site care needs8. Participates in summary reports and offers suggestions for the upcoming year to Diabetes CanadaABOUT YOU:

  • A Dietetic Intern who has an interest in pediatric diabetes.
  • A Hepatitis B vaccination is recommended.
  • Have adequate liability insurance.
  • Should be a graduate of an internship program and be involved in an accredited dietetic internship program.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:Time Commitment
  • Must be on site for the duration of the camp session.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Works in an environment that has minimal hazardous or disagreeable environmental conditions, whether physical or psychological.
  • Work requires slight physical exertion and/or application of concentration or attention effort that results in physical or sensory strain or fatigue.
HEALTH & SAFETY RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Review and comply, and ensure employees comply, with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (or provincial equivalent), Diabetes Canadas Occupational Health and Safety Manual and associated policies, procedures and regulations
