November 15, 2022INDIGENOUS STUDENT SUCCESS COORDINATORIndigenous Resource Centre, Grenfell Campus(Permanent Position)The University will consider applications from qualified permanent staff who may be interested in a secondment, subject to departmental approvalDUTIESThis position supports the overall mission of Memorial University, and Grenfell Campus specifically, by improving the retention and graduation rates of Indigenous students through the creation, implementation, and assessment of innovative and proactive programing that empowers Indigenous students to thrive. Reporting to the Manager, Indigenous Affairs (Grenfell Campus), the Indigenous Student Success Coordinator supports the mission of the Grenfell Campus Indigenous Resource Centre and the Memorial University Strategic Framework for lndigenization, developing and implementing innovative and proactive programming that empowers all Indigenous students at Grenfell Campus to succeed academically and personally. In this capacity, the Coordinator will provide cultural support and work with students to help them develop learning strategies, navigate University policies and procedures, and develop self-advocacy. The incumbent will also oversee the Kekina’mut Indigenous Peer Liaison Program and will work closely with the Indigenous Student Caucus. The Coordinator of Indigenous Student Success will serve as an institutional expert in Indigenous student success, with a particular expertise in how education inequity, institutional racism, and backlash to equity and diversity impact the academic and emotional well-being of students. This is a complex work environment, thus the incumbent is required to exercise astute political acumen, excellent inter-cultural communications, and respond to highly politicized situations. It is essential the incumbent can foster excellent working relationships with internal and external stakeholders in Indigenous student success including units within the pan-University Indigenous Affairs portfolio, units across Grenfell Campus, and leaders in Indigenous communities across the province. This position may involve travel to Indigenous communities to develop and nurture relationships and collaboration with members of Indigenous communities, including elders, chiefs, and other Indigenous leaders and cultural organizations to ensure that appropriate, culturally-relevant educational resources are available at Grenfell Campus.QUALIFICATIONSExperience (3-5 years) in educational awareness or program delivery working with Indigenous populations; undergraduate degree (Master’s degree preferred), preferably in Communications, Counselling, Education, Indigenous Studies, Psychology, Social Work, or Sociology. An equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered. Excellent knowledge of the Indigenous groups in Newfoundland and Labrador and previous experience working in Indigenous communities with Indigenous populations is required. The ideal candidate would also be an organized and creative individual who possesses strong research, web writing, and word processing skills, solid communication and public speaking skills, and the ability to work both independently and in a team.SALARY $51,611 - $77,412 per annum (Management and Professional)CLOSING DATE November 29, 2022All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, preference will be given to applicants who are legally entitled to work in Canada.
