We invite you to be part of our evolution.Our open-pit mine and concentrator in Voisey’s Bay - Vale’s only fly-in/fly-out operation in Canada - produces nickel-cobalt-copper concentrate and copper concentrate. An underground expansion will see a transition to a leading edge underground mine extending the life of the mine until 2034. Our state-of the-art facility in Long Harbour is the first nickel processing plant in the world to use hydrometallurgy technology to produce Plating RoundsTM from hard rock (sulphide) concentrate, with low carbon footprint compared to traditional smelter technology. Our office in St. John’s provides support to the Newfoundland and Labrador Operations.The OpportunityWe are currently seeking a MECHANICAL PLANNER to join our Integrated Planning Team at our remote mine site in Voisey’s Bay, Labrador, a fly-in fly-out operation. This permanent position will be on a 2 week in/2 week out rotation.The Mechanical Planner will provide timely and accurate mechanical planning of requested work in concert with the requirements of both operating and maintenance functions.In this role, you will:

  • Generate ready to execute planned packages
  • Review the status of work orders to prioritize planning activities for within area of responsibility on a daily basis;
  • Ensure the identification of resource requirements and readiness for execution prior to the date required for the work to be completed;
  • Encourage contribution of planning details from those expected to do the work;
  • Incorporate crew input into planning packages for work execution;
  • Identify and escalate all critical issues that threaten the successful planning of work orders for completion by the date required for the work to be completed;
  • Improve the efficiency of the planning process by developing and using standard jobs;
  • Ensure that all work packages comply with applicable legislation, standards, policies and procedures;
  • Create accurate plans for the scheduling and resource forecasting for weekly, monthly and long-term maintenance schedules;
  • Coordinate and schedule maintenance contractors.
About You
  • Post-Secondary education or Journeyperson certificate in a related technical field (Heavy Equipment, Millwright, Electrical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, etc.)
  • 3+ years’ experience in Maintenance Supervision, Maintenance Planning or a closely related discipline in a heavy industrial environment, or an appropriate combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ years’ experience working in an Underground Environment
  • Strong computer usage skills. (SAP, Microsoft Office, Oracle, Business objects, manufacturer technical online support services).
  • Capable to make decisions and prioritize work.
  • Knowledge of power generation would be an asset.
  • Able to work in a multicultural environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding Asset Management concepts and systems.
