Future mining from the two separate underground deposits will extend the life of this operation for at least another decade. Both deposits contain Nickel and Copper and at peak production, 2.54 million tons will be mined annually.The scope of work includes installations of UG Wash Bay, Fuel/Lube Bay, Maintenance Bays, Doors/Bulkheads, Sumps, Pump Stations, Refuge Stations, Paste/Backfill piping installations. Also an Ore Handling System including a Rock Breaker, Grizzly, Bin Discharge and Conveyor System.Job Summary:Under the supervision of the Lead Construction Miner and/or Shift Supervisor, the primary role of the Construction Miner is to complete assigned construction tasks efficiently with little to no supervision. Tasks assigned include the setup surface construction trailers, mobile equipment shop, ventilation fans and heaters, process water system and tie-in’s to services. Construction of the underground de-watering system, ventilation doors, refuge stations and mine services.Duties and Responsibilities:Inspect existing underground headings to ensure the workplace is safe and assigned construction tasks can be executed safely and to design specifications.Use of scaling bars, pneumatic hand-held drills, cutting and welding equipment, rubber-tired underground mobile equipment such as scissor trucks, boom truck, shotcrete sprayers and other support vehicles in a confined environmentThe duties and responsibilities listed above are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusiveRequired Skills and Qualifications:High School Diploma or equivalent (preferred)Basic literacy (read, write, basic math and read blue prints) (required)Ontario Hard Rock Underground Common Core – Full Basic (or other provincial equivalent) Specialty Modules: U0085a, U0085b, U0085c & U0086 (or other provincial equivalent) (preferred)2 years’ experience in a related construction role in underground mining environment (preferred)Ability to read civil printAbility to multi task and work effectivelyAbility to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independentlyAbility to make decisions quicklyKnowledge of mining industryAbility to read, review and understand Standard Work Procedures, safety programs and applicable mine regulationsMust have the ability to adapt to changeHealth and Safety:Follow Company and Client health and safety standards and report all unsafe acts or conditions to supervisorEnsure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment.Work in accordance with local legislationPre-employment requirementDrug testMedicalCriminal background checkIIR recognizes the Impact & Benefits Agreements with the Innu Nation & the Nunatsiavut Government in which Innu & Inuit workers have first preference for employment at Voisey’s Bay Site.
