Evening and weekend work may be requiredStart Date: July 2022Position location: Mulgravve, NS (Travel required)Salary: TBDApplication deadline: 4:30 pm, July 08, 2022Competition #2022-061What you’ll be doing…QuickStart Nova Scotia is a parent-mediated coaching program designed to empower caregivers of toddlers with a suspected, provisional, or confirmed diagnosis of autism to teach and support their child’s development. It is designed for children aged 12-36 months (31 months at the start of the intervention) with a suspected, provisional, or confirmed diagnosis of autism which incorporates an interdisciplinary team and uses the evidence-based intervention, Early Start Denver Model (ESDM). Throughout the program, parents and caregivers are taught to use this intervention to teach age-appropriate communication skills, social skills, and many others through routine-based activities with their child.As well the Parent Coach would be involved in our Early Start Denver Model (ESDM) program. The ESDM program is an extension of ANS’ QuickStart Nova Scotia program, for toddlers (31-48 months) with suspected or confirmed autism.   • Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in Psychology, Education, Child and Youth Studies, Behavioural Intervention) or equivalent experience accepted 
  • A clear, current Criminal Reference Check and Child Abuse Register Search is required
  • Up to date First Aid and CPR certification is required 
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification or willingness to acquire is considered an asset
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French and/or Arabic is preferred
Minimum experience:
  • 3-5 years’ recent experience working with families and toddler/preschool age individuals with Autism
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience using natural behavioural development interventions
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience using Applied Behaviour Analysis within a natural environment
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with data collection, implementing prompts and prompt hierarchies, and supported in developing teaching plans
  • Knowledge of child milestones and development
  • Experience with parent-training, parent coaching method is preferred
  • Demonstrates understanding and knowledge of natural developmental behavioural interventions, specifically pivotal response treatment and Early Start Denver Model is preferred
  • Experience in early intensive behavioural interventions is preferred
  • Experience working within community-based programs is preferred
Minimum skills and ability:
  • Demonstrates excellent observation and problem-solving skills is required
  • Demonstrates understanding of their limits of competency is required
  • Demonstrates excellent communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team in a variety of settings is required
  • Demonstrates the ability to take direction and work independently
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office programs
  • Applies knowledge of community-based service delivery systems
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Work collaboratively within the QuickStart NS umbrella of services, which includes Parent-mediated Coaching, ESDM service, and targeted interventions for specific areas in sleep and behaviours that challenge
  • Complete Level 1 and Advanced Early Start Denver Model training
  • Implement and meet fidelity of the parent-mediated coaching model
  • Provide information materials and forms to professionals for the referral process
  • Provide one-on-one coaching on the intervention model to parents within their home or community center
  • Check-in on parent-implementation daily logs
  • Collaborate with the Program Supervisor, SLP and OT
  • Participate in training, research and program evaluation as required
  • Provide data, information and documentation to Program Supervisor as required
  • Maintain confidentiality in all contexts
  • Identify and link to necessary resources and supports in accordance with identified individual and family needs
  • This position does require an extensive level of travel and training at the beginning, successful applicant will need to be flexible to meet those training requirements. Travel will be required on an annual basis for this position within their region and across Nova Scotia
Essential and Other Related Job Duties:
  • Must have a valid Nova Scotia Drivers License and use of a reliable vehicle for community visits
